Bike stolen :( Need some advice

Haven't been on here for a while, but I return with sad news: my bike has been stolen. 2011 GSX-R750, barely broken in with 1000 miles. I'm living in LA in one of the newer condo buildings downtown, renting from a private owner. 24/7 security, access controlled and very well-lit garage under...

Where to self-service bike in LA (or any urban area)?

I'm moving to downtown LA in a couple of weeks (woo!) and will be living in a large condo building. While I have a spot in the garage under the building, the condo rules prohibit doing any sort of mechanical work in there. Does anyone know of a self-service garage sort of place where I could...

Anyone in the Louisville, KY area?

There was a jacket I saw at the Motorcycle-Superstore outlet last time I was there, but didn't buy. I'd like to get it now, but won't be in the area anytime soon. I called them and they said that it's still available in my size, but unfortunately they don't ship. Anyone willing to make a trip...

    One last day to ride!

And not on the FZ6R! :) Just got it delivered this week, brand new with 0 miles. (Now it has 27.) Saw that the forecast was going to be in the low 50s today and seized the opportunity for a ride. I honestly didn't expect to be able to ride it until a couple of months from now. The...

Stands totally necessary for winter storage?

The whole point of having your motorcycle on stands in the winter is to avoid potential flat-spots on the tires, right? As an alternative, I was just thinking of putting them on 2x12s so that they're not directly sitting on the garage floor. I have an attached garage that never gets much...

    2nd oil analysis looking good

Just changed my oil last week for the second time and got the oil analysis back from Blackstone. Most wear metals are now less than the break-in sample and below universal averages, despite some pretty aggressive riding since then. Good news all around! EDIT: D'oh, it resized the heck out...

    Fair price for a 2010 FZ6R?

The itch to move into the supersport realm hasn't gone away so I've been recently quite seriously considering the prospect of selling my FZ6R and buying a new bike next year. A friend from work thinks he might be interested. He's getting his motorcycle permit this weekend and might be in the...

Videos of my friends and I at the "track."

About a month or so ago, I found an abandoned subdivision that was apparently foreclosed a few years back. They've only gotten as far as paving, and some of the lots have been marked as sold, but there hasn't been any real developments since then. The subdivision is tucked away at the end of a...

Flushmount signals that stick out more

Googled and searched this forum a bit but it seems like all of the flushmount signals compromise serious visibility from the front (and most lack the 3rd wire for running lights). Really wished "larger" flush mount signals existed with proper wiring. I ride with buddies with a Ninja 650R and...

Chuffing sound during engine braking - normal?

I think this is probably just me being new to motorcycles, but I notice that when you let off the throttle, especially in the first few years, there is a significant engine braking effect with a very mechanical whirring/chuffing sound. I figured this was normal since I've experienced it since...

How does mesh hold up in a crash?

I don't know if this is a repost, but I came across this post and found it helpful: Don Tai (Canada) Blog » Blog Archive » Does Motorcycle Mesh Gear Melt in a Crash?

First service - dealer or DIY?

Seems like the first service is just an oil change, some lubrication, and a bunch of inspection. I'm comfortable doing this by myself, but this is my first bike and my eyes certainly wouldn't be as experienced as someone who works on bikes all day. I'm guessing they'll be more likely to catch...

    Tail bag recommendations?

Wondering if you guys have any suggestions for a good tail bag for the FZ6R. (Tried searching but "bag" is a short word that gets filtered out so as a result I get a lot of irrelevant results.) Thinking about something like this: Cortech Sport Tail Bag Black from SportbikeTrackGear.com...

    what is normal operating temperature?

What temps do you see on your instrument readout under normal riding conditions? Took it out last weekend for its first ride when it was in the 50s and I was seeing 180s when I was on the move and upwards of ~210 when I was stopped. Just wanted to make sure this is normal.

    Gloves for cooler weather

I have a set of mesh gloves (AGV Sport Mayhem) and I imagine they'd be perfect in the summer, but they're definitely a little too cold when riding in cooler weather (50-60°F) we have now. Anyone have some good recommendations for spring/fall riding? I definitely don't need an insulated winter...

Anyone have any experience with RS Taichi stuff?

Thinking about buying one of their mesh/nylon jackets. I got a Teknic Supervent jacket and am overall happy with the slimmer cut, but the sleeves, which seem larger than necessary, and elbow pads conspire to make my arms look pretty weird when they're stretched to the handlebars. (Maybe I need...

Evotech tail tidy FE - current link

Is this the right product? Yamaha XJ6, XJ6 Diversion, (2009-11) Tail Tidy/Fender Eliminator | EvoTech So far I kind of like the look of the Evotech FE the most. The other FE kits seem to position the plate/signals too far in, and I like being able to use the stock turn signals. A little...

Pants -- knee pads fit low?

With motorcycle pants, do you find that the knee pads tend to sit a little low when you're not on the bike? Just wanted to make sure this is normal. I'm a fairly average build (~170, 5'11", ~32" inseam) and I got the AGV Sport Solare in medium which fits perfectly width-wise, but the knee...

Warm up / RPM limit before operating temperature

What's the proper warm up procedure for the FZ6R? In the owners manual for my cars, it recommends not to let the engine idle to warm up. Instead, you're supposed to drive off at low speeds and keep the engine speeds relatively low (I generally don't exceed 3K RPM out of a redline of 7K-8K)...
