I have a:

Bell RS-1 and it came with a clear antifog lens and it works pretty good.

I just put shade on under my helmet when I'm riding during the day. I also do a lot of night riding and instead of switching visors back and forth I prefer to just have one so I stick with the clear one that came with it and I'm happy. I've had the helmet since December of last year and the visor is pretty tough, not one scratch on it as of yet. I've had countless bugs nail it, along with some rocks off of vehicles in front of me. no marks still.

My only gripe I have with it is the wind noise I get form the under edge of it, but that's been discussed in another thread and solved as well.

i've pretty much switched most of my helmets over to dark, non-anti-fog visors. i actually like the the non-anti-fog ones better, because they are darker and work better for summer riding. and, they don't fog up anyways, so i can't really tell what the difference is between anti-fog and non anti-fog. i've tried both, and they seem the same.... i still have an IS-16 with an inner shield that i'll use if i ride at night or if i think that i might need a clear for transitioning from day to night riding...

I use a clear shield because I wear glasses. I have a comfortable pair of prescription sunglasses which are awesome for using under the helmet. They don't wrap behind the ears, just sit on top; it makes putting them on with the helmet quick and easy. Snug enough without slipping down my nose either. If you wear glasses, I'm sure you can relate. Been thinking about having a dark smoke shield for those days I wear contacts, but then, if it gets dark I would have to ride with the visor open and that would really dry out the contacts. What do you guys with contacts do?
Get a helmet with a secondary flip down tinted shield. Just be sure the flip down is dark enough for you and that it fits over your glasses properly. The smaller flip-down tinted visor is great for providing some protection for your eyes/glasses when riding in hotter weather or at lower speeds with the main visor raised.

I'm a helmet collector, but my two favorites:

  • Black matte Scorpion exo-1100 w/ gold mirrored visor (only because it looks so radical -- but happens to work *very* well)
  • Black matte Arai Signet-Q w/ dark smoke visor -- my favorite lid -- fit/finish/function)

not enough manufactures have gone to including that option, I would like it myself but none of the helmets that have it fit my fat head.... lol.
I've got a large Shoei Neotec that has it. Want it? Only used it for a few weeks... nice helmet, but I prefer my Scorpion exo-1100 (which also has a flip down), and my Arai...

Wait what? ive seen plenty that have recently come out. what size are you?? XXXXXLLLLL?
The only helmet I have been able to find to fit my head after going through many brands was a Bell RS-1, it's got the right shape for my large narrow/oval head shape. I have to wear an xxl or is it an xxxl, can't remember right now.

large wouldn't even come close to fitting this fat head, lol. Also looking at info on that helmet I don't know that it would fit my head shape.

If you are unsure if it will fit you should try it out at a local store
LOL, no one carries helmets that will fit my head locally, the local selection of helmets sucks!

I've had to resort to online ordering and shipping back and forth because no one carries a wide selection of helmets local to me. It sucks but I would basically have to drive over to miami area to find a wide selection of helmets and that's a 3hour drive for me.

If you're up for the ride, Orlando has a really good CycleGear. I've gone to the ones around here in both Matthews, NC and Columbia, SC. They pale in comparison, where helmets are concerned. The CycleGear in Orlando had a ridiculous amount of helmets on display.
I do want to make a trip that way sometime, it's a long way for me though, about 3.5 hours to their location there. There used to be one only an hours drive but they got closed due to bad management in their facility.

I've heard a lot of good things about them though.

I just picked up a dark smoke visor for my new Bell Star Carbon helmet. I would have gotten the SolFX transitions lens, but it's on backorder nearly everywhere that I'd want to buy it from. I was just gonna wait, but it's been really sunny here, and with 22 hours of daylight right now, I'm not wearing sunglasses all day long under my helmet. So I'll probably have a smoke visor for sale as soon as I get my transitions lens, ha ha.
I've been tempted with that transition visor that bell has for my helmet as well but it's a heck of a cost for that sucker...

Yeah, but it beats having to carry an extra one for changing conditions.

I spoke too soon on selling my smoke visor. My helmet fell off the 6R's tank when I closed my top case and landed right on the visor. Has some nice scratches on it. Guess I'll be keeping that one now.

Better the visor than the helmet though. Only a very small scuff right below the chin vent.

But that's not the worst thing I did over the past couple of days. I'll save the other thing for it's own thread in the Hall of Shame forum.
Don't feel bad...
2nd day I owned my new Arai Signet-Q, I was out meeting a riding buddy for breakfast, and put it on the ground (asphalt parking lot) to keep it from falling off the seat while I "de-geared." I promptly turned around and kicked it across the asphalt. Tiny crack in one top vent, and a couple of scuffs on top, and by the chin. And, this is NOT an "economy" helmet. :banghead:
