So yesterday I got a little treat. On Christmas day my Uncle asked me if I wanted to go out to the spot he uses out in the canyons to sight in his hunting rifles. He's a big elk hunter and just got a new Weatherby Mark V in .300 that he needed to get sighted in for his next hunt. His collection of firearms could stock a small gun shop. So many he can't actually name them all. He said he was going to bring a few for me to have fun with. So I brought my Glock 17, Ruger 22/45, S&W .38, a Marlin .22 bolt action, and my Dad brought his S&W .357 Mag. My uncle brought the .300 Weatherby, an AR15 he built about 6 months ago, his Springfield M1A .308 and his Christmas present, and brand new Sig 1911 Target .45 ACP (Needless to say he's pretty well off and very generous with family.)
It looked like a small arsenal out there lol. But I got to shoot all of his guns except the .300 Weatherby. (That gun got put back in the case once he got it sighted in to put 3 bullets in pretty much the same hole at 150 yards ) But he let me put about 150 rounds of .223 through the AR and 100 rounds of .308 through M1A and a few mags through the 1911. What a fun day. That M1A was so much fun. I was shocked when I was shooting 6" groups with peep sights on a rest at 100 yards with it. The AR had a nice Leupold scope on it (not sure which one) but we were actually having some issues with the crappy milspec ammo he got at the last gun show so trying to get consistent groups was difficult. We were just having fun ripping through it
Then to top it off, when we got back to his house, he surprised me with a proposal to give me the AR lower he's working on right now if I help him build it and buy an upper for it. So now in the next couple of months I going to be looking for a decent deal on a free floated 5.56 AR upper.
