The trick is replacing the cable and routing in exactly the same way as the original. The cable routes inside the frame, and it actually jams in between the radiator hose and the frame. There's a frame bolt that you need to go UNDER. Not hard to achieve, but if you don't go...
helmet cable plus masterlock
I permanently attached my cable loops to a screw under the seat, and hang the helmet with a small master lock to the cable and the helmet strap.

I own it, use it almost weekly. Great gear. Goes to show you that when it comes to cheap stuff like this, reliability (good or bad) is the issue. Would I buy a Pitbull instead?
