The DSLR Picture Thread!

Most DSLR's are good enough to make amazing pictures. The two biggest factors are the person taking the picture and the lens they use. I can if I used one of my fixed focal length lenses (35mm or 50mm primes) or the kit lens pretty easily on a lot of my photos just based on distortion and clarity.

On a side note, as soon as I get more time off on the weekends, I will be out in the canyons with some of my gear. I've been toying with starting a small 'business' shooting riders and surfers/tourists up in PB. I have one of the credit card readers and an SD card that uses wifi to immediately transfer photos to my ipad. Would have an instant payment/email delivery for $5-10.

Let me know if you decide to do that and ill come by for some pics.

I'm going to end up helping a friend move this weekend. Might have some time this next week to go. I will certainly let you know when/where I go to do it. I'll shoot'em for free because I'm going to need some practice at it...I usually shoot architecture and people, so I'm not sure how my first run through at speeds will be.

The only time I spent on a bike this weekend was with my bicycle down in Pacific Beach taking a few pictures of surfers...

I was trying out my manual focus f/8 500m lens and got this one a little out of focus, but with a little editing, I'm pleased with the effect.

Thanks! I don't really consider myself talented, but I get a little better everytime I take out the camera. Sometimes it's just a game of numbers...I came back from vacation with 5300 photos, and just narrowed those down to the best 100

These aren't the greatest pics (light was really odd in the building) but we went to the San Diego Automotive Museum in Balboa Park. They had a Steampunk art exhibit there as well as the usual cool automotive pieces and some really cool old bikes.

Here's some of the Steampunk stuff.

This thing was insane. Built out of mountain bike parts, VW bug parts, and hand fabricated parts. Those are mountain bike tires cut up and riveted together.

Shooting through glass really sucks.

So I got a great deal on a Tamron 18-200mm lens on Ebay. Just got it in today. Really pleased with the deal I got. Add said 1000 pics through it I would believe it. Thing looks brand new. $250 (half price) was a great deal. I was really looking for the 18-270mm lens but just couldn't find one for less than $450. That would be the ideal span for an all in one lens. But 18-200mm is pretty good. I was really excited to get a hold of it before my vacation to Yosemite in 2 weeks with my dad. This way I don't have to bring more than just the one lens.

That's a good deal...the Nikon version is usually somewhere around $800 new. I want so many lenses, it's crazy. I like the 18-200's because they are nice for traveling, but I keep eying up the 70-200 f/2.8's.

This is the other lens I really want. Tamron 70-300mm and if I hadn't spent so much money getting ready for this trip, I'd be all over this one on ebay. I'm hoping in a month or two I can find a similar deal. 300mm is perfect for the wildlife stuff I want to start doing.

I have a 70-300 from Canon. It is a great lens for shooting some wildlife at a medium distance. kinda suffers if you are a long distance and can't get closer w/o spooking them though... have tried a few times with deer haha

I have a 500mm f/8 that works alright for long range. If that doesn't get me out far enough, I have a 1.4x and 2.0x teleconverter to add on to it. I got a few shots of ships from 3-4 miles away with that setup. The only downside is that is constant aperture and manual focus.
