    Personal Satellite Trackers - Y/N?

SPOT tracker is very cool Friend of mine has one, he rode SOLO across country twice this year from LA to NY (has two bikes and was moving from there to here). I was able literally watch his progress as the device sent signals out every 15 minutes, the coordinates are marked on a map on a...

what's your cutoff point temp wise ?

Last year, used my snowmobile gear, rode around 35 degrees. This year, got Gerbings heated jacket & gloves, still don't want to be out when it's below 32 degrees. All the comments about black ice apply! :surrender: I have to say, the heated gear is totally worth the investment. I wear a...

    Frame Sliders

I wish the manufacturers would just install the frame sliders.. I mean.. everyone drops their bike sometime! But of course they wouldn't make any money off of us replacing parts then, would they? LOL

    New Rider - I 2nd guess everything

Good for you First of all, welcome, and good for you, you picked the right bike. This bike has enough power to be fun, but is gracious and forgiving of a beginner. And I can say that! Like you, I bought mine, first bike, one year ago. I have put 10,000 miles on it in one year. Love every minute...

    Good Deed of the Day/Week

Helped a harley rider Riding home yesterday, Big Scary Harley dude sitting on his bike on the side of the road, helmet off, crying (ok, he wasn't crying, but he was about to). Apparently his kickstand wouldn't stay up and he couldn't get home with it like that. Put a velcro strap around...

    Mileage/Wear

What's it cost? Ok so at 8100 miles i decided better safe than sorry. I ordered a set of Dunlop Roadsmarts (Competition Accessories, $219.95 for the set delivered to my door). I'm new to motorcycles, this is my first bike, first tire change. So I go to the local motorcycle shop in town - not...

    yamaha gel or corbin seat

The cover is sheepskin only, but it is truly premium wool. Yes it helps with heat and cold, and provides a little cush too. For ultimate comfort I slip a thin (half inch) piece of memory foam (stolen from my horse's saddle pad) under it.. aaaah! If you email Judy to order, just tell her you...

    yamaha gel or corbin seat

Merino Sheepskin seat cover oooohhhh nice! I bought the Yamaha comfort seat, supposedly has gel in it, so far not so much difference from the stock seat to make it worth $150. time will tell, however. I did have a custom made, merino wool sheepskin seat cover made, and THAT has made a big...

What Not To Wear (while riding)

Just as an aside to the whole gear discussion.. The other day I was trying to turn around on a squirrelly gravel sidesloped road, and of course down I went. My GAP jeans tore like paper and I was doing what, 5mph? My SIDI boots did a great job of keeping my ankle intact (it was pinned under the...

    My First Ride

    1. Take the course. I know how hard it is to wait... but it's worth it.Those MSF instructors are REALLY REALLY patient and have a system that starts with tiny baby steps (literally) and works up your skills and confidence one step at a time. Example: The first thing you do is duck walk the...

Finally New York has alert Notice

Try being me, living oh, 50 miles from The Big Apple, with all those nice people from manhattan who have a drivers license, rent a car twice a year, and drive "upstate" to go apple picking...:banghead: THEY don't see motorcycles.. Neither do the People From New Jersey who are so used...

    Chicken Strip

Mine are about 1 1/4" on the left, 1 1/2" on the right. This is my first bike, I've put 2000 miles on it, I'm now ready to start leaning it over. I think. Maybe. Soon. One day....

Looking to buy a white 09 FZ6R tomorrow

she will love this bike.. it's very controllable for a beginner yet has more power than the 250 - good when you need it, aka the other day I pulled out when I thought a bus was turning and it didn't - I hit the gas and my FZ6R got me outta there safely. I too bought the white one. 6700 OTD here...

    Dropping to 1st gear

I had trouble getting into 1st in the beginning, an experienced rider told me to roll the bike a little (if at a stop) and then try. Dealer verified, the bike shifts more smoothly if you downshift while still rolling. BUT.. check the owner's manual, it says, don't do it unless you're going 15.5...

    Yamaha Windscreen

Had my dealer put the clear version raised bubble windshield on yesterday, SIGNIFICANT difference. WELL WORTH the $70. I think Yamaha oopsied on the original windshield. The air hit me right in the chest, and I'm only 5'2". New windshield completely eliminated it.

    Boots

Ok, they look great, but practically.. can you SHIFT in those?? I'm a new rider. Haven't bought boots yet because the stores around here seem to sell the clunky looking, lug-soled, harley style riding boots. I'm wearing my Ariat paddock boots (for horse riding). They lace up over the...

    The new guy is new

OOOH Man, Please start with the FZ6R, plenty of controllable power and fun, for a beginner. The R6 is a race bike, period, IMHO the dealers should be asking potential buyers how many years they've been riding!! Til you learn to work the clutch you run the risk of having that R6 power buck you...
