I'm Michael, living in Venice Beach, California. 48 years old.

Started riding years ago, mostly using an old housemate's bike when I lived in Utah. (Bandit 600.) It's not the first bike I rode, but the first I remember. Put a lot of miles on it during those 18 months and enjoyed it, but when I moved to LA I kind of put it all on the back burner and worried about other things.

Last year got the bug again. Still had the motorcycle endorsement on my license, but decided to take the CA-MSP course anyway. Instructor suggested I get straight into another 600-650 class bike and I hesitated, especially when a very nice almost unused Kawi KLX250SF came my way. Seemed the perfect bike to play around with for a while. In retrospect too small, so now in the process of selling and shopping for an FZ6R after riding one at a Yamaha demo day.

In real life I'm a tech consultant/manager with a focus on business applications, process design and general IT management. I spent four years of my life in college, for good purpose, and 2 years wasting my time on an MBA.

For fun I also mountain bike, kayak, ski and do a bunch of other outdoor things that could break bones or get me killed. As my most recent GF said "you're just too much of an adrenaline freak." She's probably right, but I've never had a single injury doing any of the above. Sprained my ankle going up the stairs once.

I used to be certified as a guide and remain certified in wilderness medicine. Mostly those skills get used while waiting for the paramedics to arrive when I encounter an accident. Most recent one was a nasty (but fortunately not life-threatening) motorcycle accident, which I'll post about elsewhere. Let's just say I encourage you all to wear safety gear and please don't get lazy about the boots, because there's at least one 24 year old kid around here who really, really wishes he hadn't.
Welcome to the forums :D Thanks for the backround on yourself, its always nice to get to know someone a bit and where they are coming from!

New member down south...

Just wanted to say hey to everyone...

I currently own a Honda CBR, and will be adding an FZ6r, probably in the next couple of weeks... I've been looking for a good mix between a sport and tourer, that'll do the distances, the highways, and maintain the fun factor on the twisties..

Been watching here for a few days, and nice to see how much everyone's enjoying their bikes...

I'm in metro Atlanta, and I, and my riding buddy, are always up for finding new places to ride, and new people to ride with.

Hi, I'm a Kiwi living in Melbourne, Vic, Australia.
I've only really been riding for about the last year and 1/2..but I've managed to clock up around 55,000km's in that time, pretty much all on the FZ6R. I have had two, my first was a LAMS approved bike..Boo to throttle restriction's!!

My second FZ6R (Weasel), that I've had for around 6 months now =17,000km's..Is an insurance replacement for my first bike(Sideways).. this time no restricted throttle..YaY!!

Cheers
Adam.

hello all

I am new here. I am active over on the FZ6 forum.

Looking for a fuel pump because in looking at parts charts the FZ6R pump should be useable on the 6.

Just wanted to say hello before I go posting elsewhere.

Now on to the wanted section

Hey James... I had the same reaction to the copper / black 2011 FZ6r. Trying to work out the final particulars with the dealer on my trade-in this week for it... shame they discontinued that color scheme in 2012... They're hard to find...

Hi, my name is Brian. I'm 49 yrs old from Abbotsford, B.C. I bought a new 2011 fz6r in the copper / black colour approx 4 weeks ago and have 1100 kms on it now. I have ridden bikes since I was a kid ( first bike had a 2 hp. Briggs & Stratton !!) I have plans to ride south to Disneyland next year ( wife and kids will fly down ) and to Alaska in 2014. I chose the fz6r as a comfortable, reliable and value priced bike that will take my on my adventures. So far it is the best, most fun bike I have ridden. Now for a few accessories !

Howdy all,

Name's Wayne and I am from Mansfield in Ontario, Canada. Not sure if I count yet as I am not picking up my new 2012 White FZ6R until the weekend, but I am thoroughly excited. I have only been riding since 2006 (turned forty that year) and so far have had an LS650, ZR7s and a the latest was a KLR650. Gonna be picking some brains about necessary (and not so necessary) mods for the new bike. I think I have decided on the Ventura Bike pack for luggage and I am still working out the seats, but that's a discussion for another forum...

See you all there...:D

New FZ6R!

Hi all! Newbie here, just bought my FIRST bike ever at 33 years of age (I've had dirt bikes, but nothing like this), and it's a 2012 FZ6R, which I'm really happy about. I did a ton of research on a good first bike, and the FZ6 proved it all right when I first rolled on the throttle and she just took off nice and easy, very stable feeling, almost like floating along. Just a super feeling bike. I was very nervous my first time in traffic on a 'big' bike, but the FZ6 inspires confidence with that nice calm stable feeling.

I did take a rider course and plan to take more skills courses. Any tips on ways to improve confidence and skills on my own? I try to ride around short trips in my neighborhood to practice.

Also - looking to install frame sliders -- possibly the Puig, tho I've heard good things about Woodcraft

Does anyone have a recommendation on the Puig's flatter style vs. the 'regular' cylindrical shaped ones, or any other tips about sliders in general for a faired FZ6? I'm looking to get frame, swingarm, handlebars, protected, anything I can slap on to help out

Last question - has anyone tried to lower or lighten their FZ6? I am short and on the lowest suspension setting I'm still on tip-toes and it's definitely heavy. Another reason to get those sliders.

Ok sorry for all the questions, just excited! Thanks.

Ps the pic in the truck - I had to buy it in NH and drive it all the way down to DC where I live in a 16' box truck. It was worth it!
