Touring?

OK... I wanted to know if you will make the one I saw with out the hand guards. I THINK it was the 26". and do yo only make them tinted??





BTW.. the best touring bike hands down was my scooter lol!!!! I had an Aprilia Atlantic 500. man I miss that thing. Longest day was Chicago to Vermont to Chicago in one 29 hour period. I was tired. lmao

Making windscreen is very time consuming, so for me it doesn't worth making windscreen to sell them. On the other hand I posted the drawing for the 22". All you nee to do is extend it to 26". I will help you with any questions that you may have. Like I said, it's not hard! Look at the thread "Custom Windscreen" for some info. If you have more questions let me know.

If you want to buy a 26" windscreen without hand guards, go to "Cee Bailey's" web site, they sell them and tinted if you want.
I have one on my bike and I like it. Plenty of threads with pics here already.

The price is the trade off for those of us who don't have the skills and/or time to make our own
Believe me, my wallet is thinner with every mod I make since I rarely create them myself. At least I installed it though

I know... why do you think I try to figure out how to do everything myself... not easy to be poor! Exhaust, PCV, windscreen... I'm still sitting on few exhaust parts...

I am putting the plx givi hard bags and a trunk on mine. I am also having my stator rewound, I would like the extra ele. power. I am also getting the gears changed for the highway use as I do not need off the line speed. I would agree with a winshield however there was a post on here somewhere and can't seem to find it where a guy made a really nice one. Might I suggest also the hid light upgrade, as well as led turn signals, and brake lights added to the luggage.

Where are you getting the stator rewound? That, would be a welcome mod.... please put up a new thread on "More Amperage"... I opted for the firstgear 65W jacket because of the worry about power... a few more amps would be great!

I have a friend who owns a servo and motor rewind house. He has done the altenator on my cars and two of my previous bikes. I don't know what he will charge, I am not sure what he can get out of the space we have. I do know he usually suprises me when I ask for something.

Marthy are you using polycarbonate, Acrylic, or standard plexi glass? I know the plexi is easiest to work with but the acrylic is better for the scratch resistance.

practice with whatever you can get at lowe's.... then eplastic.com have a great selection of plexiglass, tinted or not in different shade. Order a 24" x 48"... 1/8" thick... 3/16" is a B&^%!

If I had 1 recommendation... if you're going to go more then 20"-22" go this route (on pic) the flow is more laminar. You will need to add extra support behind the mirrors too. I'm sure you can come up with something better then what I did... Let me take few more pics.... I will post them later.

Work great! I haven't finish it yet. All I did is cut the top part and fit it on the bike. So the edges are still rough. Since that I like it the way it is I will finish it up... The cool part, it's fylly adjustable! I can go up or down (just need more holes for adjustment) I can add spacer to have a different gap, or angle.

I add 2 little support bracket on the back side, no more flopping. I drove with my wife last week crusing 80-95, even hit the triple digits once on I-95. It was perfect... :iconbeer:

I play a little with the gap, increase the gap at 1/2" on top. Really nice! I think on that set up you can go to 20" on the main screen.

Martin, one thing I've seen mentioned on laminar lip design is that the lip piece should be at a slightly steeper angle that the main screen. For some reason, this smooths out the airflow the best. I don't recall the angle, but it might be somewhere in the neighbourhood of 15 degrees.

There's actually a dedicated section for touring, but it's WAY down the index page. Plus, I think the truth is the vast majority don't use the FZ6R for frequent touring.

The reason for the different angle is to creat a draft which draws are in air better from the lower screen, the air coming through mixes at a different speed and creates a nice flow instead of buffeting. Most touring and sport touring dedicated bikes have a vent at the base of the windscreen to do the same thing.
