Two things, the FZ6R is very top heavy, prepare for it. Use your core and arms when you move it around. Don't be afraid to man handle it when moving it around etc. Be careful, have fun, and BE SAFE!

LOL it's his first bike! The 6R is top heavy compared to what? How is he going to prepare for it?

Personally, I love the way it handles. It's stable at highway speeds, not difficult to throw it over when I want to, and I like the way it dives into a turn, if you let it.

It's not a Ducati. It's not a Triple. It's not a Gixxer. In order, it doesn't handle as well, doesn't have as much torque and doesn't have the top speed.

It's still a better bike. It's a little bit less than most dedicated sport bikes, in their chosen niches. However it does everything very well, where the others often fall short in a category that they are not meant for.

Touring on a Ducati? Have a chase vehicle. Giving your bike some more gas in a tight corner, because you think you can run it a little faster than you thought? Mid corner? Do that on a Triple.

WOT from a stop sign, with a nice sweeper ahead? Try that one on a Gixxer.

I'm a fanboy of the 6R, and I'm not ashamed of it. It's a freakin' awesome motorcycle. You can ride it hard, and it's still forgiving. You can ride it easy, and it's still comfortable. You can commute on it. You can tour on it. You can dog it and get your jollies on.

If you've read any of my posts, you know I agree with this 100%.

However, it IS a bit top heavy (spade a spade, and all that).

Just means a little care on the ultra slow u- turns. Otherwise, the weight disappears.

This was my first bike too, and those are the things I wish I knew about it. It's just heavy for a first bike, IMO. I don't have a problem admitting I put it down early on because I didn't really know how to move it around plus the weight of it messed me up. This in my eyes, it's a heavy bike. I sat on a few ninja 650's and rode them and 250'rs and none of them felt anywhere near as top heavy as the FZ6R. Same with the ZX6R, didn't feel like the FZ in weight.

I wasn' t prepared, and had no idea when I got it, so at least now it's in his head and he can be mentally prepared for it.

I love the FZ too! Otherwise I wouldn't have bought the touring setup for it

Perhaps my experience with bikes has been biased. As an intelligent rider, I recognize that I am always a new rider, and I try to keep that in mind. Still...

My '76 CJ360T was top heavy. My '82 CB750C probably was, but it was so well balanced, it was hard to tell. That bike simply was what it was. My '82 CB900F SuperSport definitely was, (also heavy as hell) but it made no bones about it. For it's timeframe, it was hot shiat!

My exwife's 'Zuki 650 didn't feel top heavy, but honestly neither does the 6R, to me.

My dad had a Harley Sportster. That was one top-ass-heavy bike. I felt like I was perched on a rail whenever I rode it.

I just don't feel that with the 6R. What are you all comparing the 6R to, to consider it top heavy and weighty?

A 250? Of course it weighs less.

The 6R has an upright seating position. A "true" sport bike is way more leaned forward. Even a very heavy (let's say really heavy, 1,000 cc) "true" sport bike would seem less top heavy if you're all leaned over the tank, with your heels at your ass.

Center of gravity.

In my opinion the 6R really isn't top heavy. Just try dropping your personal center of gravity. Toes on the pegs and raise your heals. Drop your elbows down to the tank and hug it with your chest. Keep you helmet below the windscreen.

That's approaching "true" sportbike ergonomics.

Do that, and I think you'll find that the bike isn't top heavy at all. Rather it's the comfortable ergonomics that make it seems so.

The benefit to us is that we don't always have to ride like that. We've got a choice.

I used to ride a 125cc Honda everyday when I was in college back in India. When I moved stateside for some reason getting into the biking scene seemed intimidating. However I picked up the courage last year and got a CBR250R and well within the first season I outgrew it and had my eyes set on the FZ6R, but the wife won't let me buy a 600cc. So found the right moment when she traveled back to India to visit family and traded in the CBR for a brand new 2012 FZ6R Raven, but as if fate were teasing me my boss said I might have to travel to NYC for a couple of weeks, so there my beautiful FZ6R is sitting at the dealership and I am here eagerly waiting get my hands on it when I return.

BTW I am 29 and from the Detroit, MI area.
