Hi everyone,
My name is Don and I live in Mission Viejo, Ca. I've been riding since about 1979. The last bike I owned was a 1981 Yamaha Seca 550, but sold it in 1990 due to the resposibilities of raising a family. Now that the kids are grown, and I am separated from my wife I have renewed my passion for motorcycling. The FZ6R is the perfect bike for me - comfotable on the ride to the canyons and a BLAST in the curves! Also a great commuter bike. And the styling is spot on (considering gvt regs - fender, signals, exhaust, etc)! Can't wait to see what the aftermarket has in store for this bike.

Hi,

I'm Leanne and I'm in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

Been riding for 2 years and this is my 3rd bike and I love it! :D
Was quite happy with my 07 500Ninja but was looking around to see what bike might be a next good step when I discovered the FZ6R online late last fall. I hounded my local dealer until it arrived in Feb and he was kind enough to uncrate the yellow one first and set the seat to the lower position for me to try. When it finally hit the floor I was the first one to sit on it! Loved it instantly but really thought that I couldn't afford a new bike right then so left without buying it. 3 days later my hubby went in and bought it as a surprise for me and handed me the keys when we were in the Dominican in March! Gotta love a guy who'll buy you a bike!! I know I do!:D

Hey peoples, been posting for a short while, so might as well introduce myself. Tony here from Los Angeles county. Been riding for a couple years now, but had ridden from an early age with my dad, so picked up riding a couple years back when i was old enough. After starting out with an older bike, I sold it and picked up the FZ6R for more comfortable and reliable touring-style riding but where I can still have fun on curves every week.

Hi All - New Member here

Hi There,

I am a new member. I'm also looking for my 1st bike. I was about to pull the trigger on a Ninja 650R until I saw a FZ6R and liked it. I'd like to hear from people who bought this as their first bike. I want to make sure it's not too much for me.

I'm 34, 6'1", 185LBS. I have taken the MSF course and will have other training locally. I want to ride my bike around the city, commute 40miles round trip to work, and eventually learn to ride track. Is this a good starter bike?

Also, how much should I pay for a new 2009? A local dealer is offering $6,800 out the door. I live in San Francisco where sales tax is 9.5%.

Thanks,

Josh

Hi and welcome, Josh

I was about to go for a 650R myself, but IMO, the FZ6R is more refined in a few areas and a better value all around.

There are a number of new riders on this forum, and I think it's an excellent first bike. My first ride (almost 20 years ago) was a 600, so I don't feel that's "too much" power. Heck, any bike can go fast enough to cause hurt, but a 600 is unlikely to cause unintentional wheelies or surprise burnouts. You should have no problem with the size / weight of the bike.

The FZ6R also has very confidence-inspiring handling and braking (especially compared to my ancient Radian), which is a great learning tool for newer riders. Obviously, you don't want to breed overconfidence, but if you're scared of your bike's capacities, you'll never learn to use them.

The only downside of the 6R, or any new bike, as a starter, is the higher likelihood of dropping the bike in the first few months of ownership. Frame sliders will do a farily good job of keeping the plastic intact, at least at low speeds.

Ride safe!

:welcome:

I agree with the posts above me. This is my first bike as well and I, too, was looking at the Ninja 650. But the FZ6R was way more comfortable for me. I have absolutely no complaints about this bike.

HI, My name is Mike I’m from Yarmouth, Maine. My GF Tabby and I both got our MC licenses last July and bought our FZ6Rs shortly after. Unfortunately we will have to put our bikes away for the winter soon, so will have to ride vicariously though you guys in the warmer climates for a few months

Hello

I have been lurking on this site for a few weeks now and I guess I should introduce myself. My name is Jeff and I live in Northern California just south of Redding. I am a manager for a telecommunications company as a hazmat specialist. I've been riding since I was 20 (1988 GSXR750), but mostly spent the next 15 years doing college, career, and family thing. Man, life can sure go by fast; no regrets, I love being married and my son! About the time gas hit $4/gallon and my daily driver was getting 10 mpg, I figured this was a good excuse to get back into someting I really enjoyed. I purchased a 1983 Suzuki GS850g and spent the next 3 years riding that bike to the bone before buying the Raven FZ6R a couple months ago. To contrast the 2 bikes, let me sum it up by saying, I love modern bikes. Fuel injection and water cooled engines are where it is at (IMO). This site has been/is great! Lots of ideas for mods and general maintenance. I really enjoy reading the posts and "talking" to you all. For mods, I'm not going to do too much to mine other than create a light sport touring bike since the roads and scenery (2 volcanos) here are awesome. Peace!

:welcome: Mike and Tabby!

The his & hers 6Rs are great. Maybe you guys can answer the raging debate of which color is faster (there's also the raging debate of whether women or men are better riders, but I'm not touching that one!).

Today looks like one more good riding day on the East coast. Enjoy!

Hey all. I'm Tabby from Yarmouth, Maine. I've been riding with my parent's since I was 11. My BF Mike finally kicked my but into gear and we got our MC licenses this past summer and bought our FZ6Rs. And I say the yellow is faster, but he might disagree. :D

Welcome, welcome! Although your riding season is over, it gives you time to think about what mods you are going to do and how to save the money for them. ;)

I introduced myself directly, but here goes again. From South Africa - Joburg area, see there are only 2 other SA'ns here on the site, which means the FZ6R has not really taken off here or that there are lots of riders who have not yet found this site.

I get my brand new baby tomorrow - she went directly from the dealer to my favourite mechanic for lowering. I learnt to ride on an HD 883L just over 2 years ago and then added a Suzuki SV650S to my collection. My hubby is an old rider (meaning many years of riding, not many years of age) and he convinced me to try the superbike style of riding. I enjoyed til my back decided not to like me anymore - which prompted me to go out and find a more upright position - hence the new FZ6R.

Here in SA we can ride all year around ... although that gets us riding in the rain in summer and the cold in winter, but luckily no snow.

It's great to be on a forum where there are like minded people.

In the UK.

Hi,

im a new member, bought my XJ6N about 6 weeks ago. Im in the Bristol in the south west of England. Hadn't joined earlier as i have only just discovered the XJ is the FZ6R in north america.

iv got a white unfaired XJ, ill post a pic up when i can find my camera.

Been riding for 16 years. Had loads of bikes:

Simson SR, Suzuki ZR50, RXS100 x 2, RD350YPVS, FZR1000EXUP 1995, 2008 ZX6R, 1998 TDM850.

consider myself extremely knowledgeable about bikes; rebuilt engines etc, even converted a carbed bike to EFI using megasquirt.

Big football fan - soccer to those on the other side of pond - Bristol Rovers FC.

Anyway glad iv found this site, as i want to fit an R6 exhaust system and see there is already stuff on this.
