What is it with Bikers?

Closest thing I had was a 90 and 110 Honda trail... I rocked the shit out of those things as a kid. Loved em.

I never own a scooter. I had worst, a Orange Motobecane as my first street ride. Then I went to a real 49.9cc bike. 1982 MB5. That was the $hit back then... (14-16 yo can drive with a permit on the road with a 49.9cc max engine where im from) I'll try to find some pics...

The funny part I was driving around with 1 $500.00 Shoe helmet with thin visor...lol

Here's the Orange bullet!

The other one is the first bike I ever ride alone. I still remember those 300 Ft like it was yesterday. I do remember the f*&^ wood log that was standing in my way... Yes I crash within my first few hundred feet. I was 6 y.o. I kind of broke the ice early...

I had a Honda Express I ported and polished to get it up to 28 mph. I rode it to college every day...Was real dependable until I put a can of COX glow plug fuel in it for a model airplane. Ran at 37 mph for about 5 miles until it seized.....

I wave to anything on 2 wheels with a motor... Trikes too.

We are no better than scooters... Maybe that's just all they could afford. We talk about community, etc. Why shun scooters? They are part of the family too, even if they are seen as the little red headed step child.

Well said J, very well said!!

Whether it be a nod, or a wave or any other unspoken bond, it is, was and always will be the "CODE" that those of us on two wheels have come to know and understand!

Just don't dress like, look like, or join any type of "biker" gang... They give all motorcyclists a bad name... Biker gangs typically ride chromed out cruisers or Harley Davidson's, wear tats, black leather, bandana's etc. And, don't think that just cuz u ride a motorcycle that they'll give u any kind of respect or won't hesitate to shoot u.. They are criminals and likely carrying firearms.

If you come across one of them, they WILL approach u and scope out who u r. Make only short, respectful eye contact and acknowledge politely yourself as a fellow rider and that you are not affiliated with anyone and just out for a ride. Do not speak unnecessarily, do not antagonize or make small talk. Just answer the questions they ask u. They'll figure out pretty fast you're not in a rival gang and let u go...

This is not true and very much stereotyping. Yes some do this type of thing but not all of them. And just because they wear leathers and ride a harley doesn't mean they are in a gang. You may want to get your facts straight before you go accusing people of such behavior. I kind of take affence to this since I have family that is affiliated with a bike "gang." He is part of the Diablos and is a damn nice guy. He may not make the wisest, in most peoples eyes, decisions but is a nice guy nontheless.

In this country that is called a postie as that is what is used by postal service for residential mail deliveries. Hard little buggers they are too. They are bit of a thrash icon here cause you can pick up the used ones for next to nothing.

On topic... It isn't just bikers. It people with a shared interest. I very much had the same thing when I was into cars. When I got my Nissan Skyline and they were very rare here at the time, and mine was fairly modified, it could take me half an hour to go fill the tank up cause someone would come over and have a chat to me about it. Made quite a lot of new friends purely cause the car created that common interest. I am now experiencing very much the same with bikes. Sporting a 2 Bros exhaust, I truly have one of the loudest sports bikes around and people look and are interested.

edit: Here is a Aussie postie in action...

where i live is relatively rural, so to me scooters are a traffic hazard. they simply can't keep up with the speed of traffic. in a city they're perfectly fine, since you're never going to be moving that fast. so no, i don't wave to scooters.

i also don't wave to trikes on account of them having 3 wheels and not 2 :P

I wave to that F*&^ lady who cut me off this morning. Really close call coming up to a red light. She decide to come into my lane right as I was getting there... Not sure if she saw me... was too busy with her phone. Can't wait until "The Law" start to nail those fkrs with phone.

In Montreal, it a fine! Headset is mandatory. If you hold the phone in your hand, your done if you get caught! It's been like that for years... Can't wait to get it here...

That sucks. In NY headsets are mandatory when driving too.

same in dc, in-fact my gf's mom got pulled over twice in one day by the same cop for using her phone here in va

i dont answer my phone when i'm in the car.. if i do its for a brief moment to yell at the person calling me because i'm driving lol

same in MD. but the number of people i see talking on their phones is still significant.

lol. to be honest, headsets are just as bad as holding the phone up to talk. It's not really motor skills that are lost when people are holding the phone with their hands; it's more of an attention deficit when talking on the phone.

Each person has a particular attention capacity. When people talk on the phone while driving, some/A LOT of the attention required to drive is redirected to the conversation on the phone. And when something unexpected happen on the road, they mess up and boom.

And shame on the texters! Those are the worst.

After driving for a few days because of rain, I realize that so many things in cars are pretty distracting. You got the radio, GPS, bluetooth phone calls, passengers, and AC redirecting everyone's attention away from driving. And there's also the attention span problem. I'm pretty sure a lot of people phase out and start thinking about other things when they drive.

Those damn Cagers, they're really out to get us.
