Before I had my FZ6R I never understood the unwritten code of motorcycles. Once I got my bike and started riding it's like I made hundreds of new friends, almost every time I pass another biker wether it be a cruiser, supersport, scooter or a dual sport I get a wave as if we were friends. Especially after I joined this forum and have seen how people are willing to help fellow forum members. Also noone no matter what kind of bike ever wants to hear of anyone going down. I am still not sure what the unwritten code all means but I like it. I like being a motorcyclist and will always live by that unwritten code of (bikers) or motorcyclist it truly is gratifying to me, and I will always be ready to help a fellow biker or motorcyclist in anyway I can. Does anyone else feel similar to the way I feel about the "unwritten code"?

Bike riders for the most part are friendly towards each other. There's a lot of truth to what you say. Harley riders may be the only exception. They are a different breed than sport/touring riders in many ways. I don't need to be their buddy but would prefer they wore safety gear for their own protection. Also non silenced exhaust you can hear from a mile away doesn't endear them to anyone bike rider or not.

Bikers ride HDs, motorcyclists ride everything else.

Being a rider, I learned a lot about doing your own maintenance. So if I see another biker on the side of the road I pull over and see if I can help.

The "wave" to me represents how we both go through the same things, weather, not being seen, etc.

+1 on that, it really seems to me that most riders sport/touring all have an unspoken bond of some kind. I really admire that unwritten and unspoken "code". It makes me feel good!

Just don't dress like, look like, or join any type of "biker" gang... They give all motorcyclists a bad name... Biker gangs typically ride chromed out cruisers or Harley Davidson's, wear tats, black leather, bandana's etc. And, don't think that just cuz u ride a motorcycle that they'll give u any kind of respect or won't hesitate to shoot u.. They are criminals and likely carrying firearms.

If you come across one of them, they WILL approach u and scope out who u r. Make only short, respectful eye contact and acknowledge politely yourself as a fellow rider and that you are not affiliated with anyone and just out for a ride. Do not speak unnecessarily, do not antagonize or make small talk. Just answer the questions they ask u. They'll figure out pretty fast you're not in a rival gang and let u go...

I'll nod at anyone and anything on two wheels, providing they're not a pedboi chav. (a problem I feel america doesn't suffer from)

I'm also friends with a good few harley owners and cruiser riders, none of them are gang members and they too nod at everyone.

In the UK the biker nod is more popular than the biker wave.

I wave to anything on 2 wheels with a motor... Trikes too.

We are no better than scooters... Maybe that's just all they could afford. We talk about community, etc. Why shun scooters? They are part of the family too, even if they are seen as the little red headed step child.

I was just messing with John... LOL I remember my instructor joking about the wave and scooter... I do wave to anyone who wave too.

Don't get me wrong... I'd never be caught dead on a scooter! :D. But they deserve a little wave every now and then to make em feel better. :cheer::rof:
