You may have been doing this with a warm engine, and if so, disregard.
One of the worst things you can do for your bike (or car, or any lubricated motor) is rev the engine while cold.
Love the TBR sound.

Got myself a Fehling rear rack and a 52ltr top box a few days ago, finally got around to fitting them today.
Preferred the fehling rack ahead of givi, renntec and Yamaha offerings as it mounts with no filing or cutting and doesn't replace the stock pillion handles also look bloody good.
Instructions are all in German so really only used the pictures and common sense to figure out how to fit. Got mine from the bs-motosports eBay shop.
Now piccies!

TRACKSIDE Parts & Accessories - Brush Guards with Aluminum Mount - Cycle Gear
I took the long ride up to Charlotte, to CycleGear, to talk to the guys and see what they had for handguards. Upper thirties on my commutes home from work at night. My hands were suffering.
The guy showed me those, and they were on sale for $20 bucks. What the hell, right! I finally got to install them today. I removed the stickers and used electrical tape to cover the vents, and had to move some stuff around on the handlebars, to get them where I wanted them.
The sun was behind the bike when I finished. Nothing but flare would be seen in a pic, and I won't get to ride them until Saturday. No way I'm leaving my bike in the Walmart parking lot during the craziness on Thanksgiving and Black Friday.
I'll post pics and experience when next I take her to work. I've high hopes.
EDIT: Rode her into work. My hands still froze. I'm not sure if the guards aren't large enough or if they are just too far forward to be effective. Either way, it was worth the $20 experiment, even on my budget. I don't recommend anyone else try it though. I'm going to play with placement, but I'll be really surprised if that makes them useful.

fork tear down
Took my bike to a friend to do my forks (he grew up around bikes, knows them inside out)... 48k miles and three years, way to long. It looked like graphite in water... completely removed and tore down the fork, cleaned it, put in new "All Balls" seals, put it back together. Dropped the forks by a bit (no, not lowered the front, raised it by about 2-5mm, I'll put a pic up later). No real difference in handling, but he said it will make it more stable in the turns. Put in Motul 10W synthetic.
Just another one of them maintenance items that I've put off but glad I did it.
With the temps dropping, I haven't had a chance to take it out into some nice roads yet, so I can't comment on the differences, but on my way home (in 30ish temps) didn't notice any difference. Not being one to push the bike hard, I probably won't notice it much, but without upgrading the internals, that's to be expected.

Something I notice on my ride when I get the rear end loaded a bit too much or riding two up without cranking the preload to 7 (usually ride 5 alone) is that I can feel the front end a little "light" at high speed. Lowering the front 3/8" kind of help a bit. Get a good feel of it before you ride hard. What work on one bike might not work on ours. Be safe!
Did you ever come up with good aux. lights option? I've been digging for 2 days and can't find anything that I like.

Installed an hid/projector kit but had some moisture in it from washing it out and after putting it all back together it's sealed in there.. Will it burn out from the head of the headlight?

Lol aye, sadly over ere we don't get to use smaller ones, well you can chance it (I know someone with a zx6r who has just a tiny thumb sized sticker) but you'll get pulled for it and ticketed.
Makes tail eliminators a bit pointless as you still have a flag of a plate hanging down.

At the same time I joint the 12V socket adapter. Look nice and clean!
Before someone ask, yes... this is real carbon fiber. I had a little piece left over from a previous project.

Made a little face plate for my new voltage display. Kind of nice to have with the aux. lights. Just to be on the safe side... I kill the battery once.

That looks nice. Carbon fiber or not. If I was going to add a socket, I think I would go this route.
I removed that little bar that hold the wires and cable and bolted the carbon plate there. Make sure you don't put the socket too high... it will touch the plastic/dash. I got lucky... about 1/8" gap! Now I wish I made a template... You'll figure it out, was an easy project.
