Speaking of gas mileage...in the last month I have gotten a new smoke visor for my helmet. So, I have a new racey attitude and have changed my riding style to more of a Hooligan frame of mind -- hot launches from lights, hard revving (almost never ride under 5K and often peaking over 8k.) As a result, my GAS MILEAGE IS 5 MPG BETTER! Yesterday I went 192 miles on 3.7 gal (51.7+ MPG). Last week I refueled at 120 miles with 2.3 gallons (52+ MPG). I think the reason is that I was underrevving. I used to cruise around at 3-4k rpm. My temp is cooler too, even in this hot summer. So, rev it up, boys. That's what the bike wants to do!

I found that out also. I always ride around 6-7k rpms and get good mileage. I think it has something to do with the power-band.

well, we peak power right around 10k... so if you always want a little extra umph to get around or out of the way of things without having to upshift (same for downshift, don't wanna be hogging around at 4-5k and have to drop it a gear or two), keep it around 6-8, then bump it to 10 when you need to accel quickly...

I bought my 2011 FZ6R new. Now I have just under 22,000 miles on it. Almost all of my miles are from commuting on the highway to work. I have an 80 mile commute daily. About 70 miles of that is on the highway with a steady RPM of 7,000. So with some quick estimating that about 17,000 miles traveled at 7k RPM. No issues yet. If it turns into a grenade sometime, I'll be sure to post

Mine went up to around 50mpg when I held it at 5.5k, shifting closer to 7k. Still in break in period, so we'll see what happens when I start to really drive it.

I hear ya,I keep it at 5k/5.2...just hit 1400 miles!

I drive mostly around the Bay Area probably 30% freeway the rest in town and get 45 mpg consistently.
