Indiana bill to allow motorcyclists to proceed through stale red lights



I get so tired of trying to be a good citizen as I wait through 3-4 light rotations to finally get a green light. Looks like now something might be done about it..

VA just passed it last year.... after two minutes (which is a ridiculously long time), we can proceed...


I've had to use it a couple of times now, working late, little traffic, no chance of getting a green ... and I still have to wait two minutes... it may not seem like long, but when its 50 or below and windy... you count every second... at least now we have a legal statue for it... before, we'd have to fight it as a defective light sensor, luckily I never had to do that.

In the MSF course, we were instructed to allow ample time for receiving the green light, but if one was not provided you could continue through the light. I've never waited 2 minutes. I usually give it 2 complete cycles, then proceed when safe.

There are no cycles here... they don't even flash the lights after a certain time... they just stay green for the main flow of traffic, so if you're on the "odd" flow of traffic... used to be "screwed"

Proceeding through an intersection at a red light. Authorizes the operator of a: (1) motorcycle; (2) motorized bicycle; (3) motor scooter; or (4) bicycle; approaching an intersection that is controlled by a traffic control signal to proceed through the intersection on a steady red signal under certain circumstances. Makes conforming amendments.
