Im 5'10" 250lbs with a muscular build so I'm not too worried about the weight. I sat on both of them and even the FZ09 which is the bike that got my interested in the bolt on style handle bar sport bike and they all felt good even though my feet aren't completely flat on the ground. I'll be riding 40 miles a day all highway and plan to do a lot of practicing before I venture out and take a MSC. So many choices out there!!! I like the price points of the 250s but know I'll want to upgrade as soon as I get used to it. I want the FZ09 but buying a new first bike doesn't seem smart. Thanks for all the inputs. The miles doesn't deter anyone???
OK. I'll toss in here. Take the MSC FIRST! It's not about not looking stupid. Everyone looks stupid at those things at the beginning. That's the point. When you graduate the course, not only will you not look stupid, you will not BE stupid.
As a non-rider there is SO much that you do not know. For instance, did you know that a hard bump can cause you to tweak the throttle? Experience teaches one not to do so, but as a new rider? Bump that throttle on a corner, on a high hp/torquey bike and it's a simple recipe for disaster.
Keep in mind at all times that you are not only risking your skin, but your life. Buy the gear, take the MSC, and get a low cc starter bike. You'll grow out of it quickly, but that's OK. Sell it and move up to the 6R.
You may find you grow out of the 6R eventually. Personally, I grew back down into one.
My first bike was a 360cc. I progressed up to 900cc and back. I'm glad my first bike was so forgiving of mistakes because I made a LOT of them.
Motorcycles are a special kind of vehicle. When you're new, 50mph feels like 100mph and we simply have no experience to handle that kind of input until we do it. There's so much going on, all at once that we either have to do or deal with...
"Experience is a harsh mistress." Yes indeed. Start small. Stay safe. Move up.
