I took my seat to my local upholstery shop and they put an inch of memory foam in it. Works perfect.
Call around your local area until you find the shop that does bike seats. My local guy does 100+ seats a year and does a great job.

There is a hard plastic chain guard that sits close to, and above, the front sprocket. It takes some force to deform the guard when you push the +1 sprocket and chain onto the spline. Once it's in place there is no interference.
