2nd gear does not engage all the time (from neutral)

When the bike is cold started I always go to second and then first. Much smoother with no klunk or grinding. This being said, this bike likes to have the clutch adjusted cold. It's the only way I get smooth shifting when it's hot or cold.

    Riding Fast

Fast riding It takes a lot of skill to ride fast. Your decision time is much shorter. It takes more skill to use your brakes in a hurry at 70 than 30 and putting the bike exactly where you want at speed quickly and safely doesn't come over night. It took longer for me to learn how to ride tight...

    Fuel and warm up

I run reg. And I don't warm it up. I blip the throttle a few times to get the idle to settle down and ride away. I don't flog it but I don't baby it either. I don't see to many bikes warming up much on the starting line or in the pits except for the tires. A water cooled Fuel inj. Computer...

Gear Shifting not smooth any tips

Mine is really touchy about the adjustment, a little bit goes a long way. Mine works much better if I adjust it cold than when it's hot. Most bikes liked it better hot than cold but each is different even with the same model bike. That said, this may be the best trans I've ever had. You can do...

    Improvements required in FZ6R

Whoops!! I guess that remedial math didn't help much! Five figures sounds better.

    Improvements required in FZ6R

If you need adj. suspension you bought the wrong bike. The adjust on the fly is pretty pricey and you need to be pretty good to know how to adjust it. I know some people who write down the settings for one up, one up for twistys, track day, two up,etc. I watch the tach to figure out what...

    New Levers?

I know several guys that lost the finger tips from sheet metal levers. These look like they would do the same on a ride it into the ground crash, as you should on a low side. No thanks!

    Touring?

You are putting too much into this motorcycle. Just ride. Carry what you must, but just RIDE! Who cares if you have the latest lights, fender eliminator, the best bags or the latest pipes. None of this makes any difference if the bike is setting in your garage. Ride, ride, ride! Ride the best bike...

    Touring?

Yes, buy the Sport touring bike. You need the right tool for the right job. Will the little 6R do a weekend 500 to 1000 mile ride? Yep, if you are up to it, the Yamaha can do. I've done weekends on a 350(315), no windshield, and could have done more. It was all I had and I wanted to ride. The 6R...

Keep these in mind when "Trying" to get rid of chicken strips

He did good! He got in a corner way to hot ( novice ) but he was smart enough to stay on the bike and keep his feet on the pegs, saved himself a high side that could have been deadly on that road. Keeping his feet on the pegs will save him a broken hip or worse, going down with your feet...

    Ducati 1198s vs Ferrari 458 @ dragstrip & track

Wow! I would have bet the Farm on the Ferrari on the track. I stand corrected. Another part of the world passing me bye.

Any thoughts on a bigger rear tire

Late in the last century we started putting bigger and bigger tires on the bikes we were building. I went from 130's to 250's and I finally figured out each larger tire was more heavy than the last one. The bike got slower to rev and the end came when I had to upgrade the rear brakes to equal...

    Brand Loyalty

I'm an old racer. There is no brand loyalty on the starting line, only what's the best bike that gives you the best chance to take home the trophy. I might choose different things for the street, like price,HP, handling or even comfort. I think on this little bike you get a great price...

    saddlebags or tailbags?

I got the Cortech magnetic tank bag and it really works great. It also makes a great tail bag. Just fold up the magnets and with 3 small bungie cords it fits on the passenger seat like it was made for it. I moved it there to allow my auto gate pass to clear me. I bolted the pass through the head...
