What did you do to your bike today?

Hope you have a cap wrench to remove the stock filter if this is your first oil change. I should have bought one, but didn't like a dummy and used a combination of channel locks and screwdriver method. Sucked and made a mess.

Nah I'm at about 3300 miles. I (being the misinformed idiot then) had to do that same method you used. But I got the K&N filter after first changes so it should be a LOT easier this time around. I have Yamalube in it because I went to the dealership and they suggested their own stuff of course. SO I went with it. THe life of the oil sucked. At about 2k miles on the life, my bike had it's first mis-shift. In the past 3-4 weeks my gear shift lever has been sticking and I've had 2 more mis-shifts. I figured change the oil and get that crap out of my bike. Went with Motul this time because a lot of the forum members (along with the guys at cycle gear) swear by it.
LOL! I also switched to KN204 at first change and went right to Mobil 1 Synthetic 4T Racing. I know oil is a much debated topic and Mobil 1 is $11 a quart, but it runs and shifts great.

Exactly. What oil and gas you put in your bike are like a conservative having a chat with a liberal. lol But I look at any information about those kinds of things to be good information. Especially people who are die-hard about it. They tend to do their research and leave little room for me to have to do a lot of work. Usually they do the work for me. All I have to do is read what they say about things and make comparisons to how I ride and go with whoever is closer to how I ride. lol

well i did this last night: i changed my oil now that my bike has 3k on it and discovered what i had suspected and should have taken care of when i first got her. The break in oil was never changed.... by the original 2 owners, so the oil was totally cooked and was watery and sticky not even lubricant any more :-/ and what the F@*k did yamaha do use an impact wrench to put the oil pan drain screw and oil filter on!? i let the bike drain for about 45 mins to get that awful oil out of my beautiful bike.... then it took me an hour and 20 mins to get the effing filter off!! i ended up having to brutally pierce the filter 3 times and use a small pry bar to rotate it enough to get it off with my hands....now she's got a new filter and 3 quarts of mobil one synthetic ..... i think i should do a preliminary flush after 1500 miles but thats would be another $50 down the drain... any thoughts?
Weird but even old oil should never be watery in consistency.
Don't use mobil 1 if you're going to flush it after 1500 miles, use something less expensive, or just bite the bullet and do it.
Agreed, Just changed to Mobil 1 Synthetic and at $11/quart I wouldn't want to flush it. Unless you have the money and don't care.
XD well i didnt expect the oil to be so bad! i had gotten the oil already, granted i could have waited and just bought conventional oil for the flush.... to late now lol
do you think the flush would be a good call?

If that really was the break in oil then I would think it would be a good call, albeit expensive. Changing it before putting her away maybe with cheap oil and then back to Mobil 1 in the spring. I personally don't change my oil before and after winter unless it's close to being due for a change. I know there are some that do recommend it though.

my bike never gets "put away" when winter comes the warmer gear breaks out and me and my bike still venture on unless there is snow or ice on the road

I don't know why pics are upside down...
Mine used to do that when I uploaded from Google Drive. I would rotate them while in the pics folder in my folder before uploading. Hasn't done that in a while. What are we looking at btw?

I do like the idea of that extender. I might have to get something like that for my bike. That would make getting stuck in the rain a little more tolerable.
I need to find a much longer tire huger for my bike though. That's one thing that I want to get done as It would be nice to not have so many rocks and crap thrown up under the rear section of the bike. And when it rains it would help to keep less water on the back of my legs or on the back of my passengers legs.
Haha, was gonna say take a passenger so they can deflect the water. I haven't been caught far from home in the rain so no problems. I won't commute to work if there's a chance of rain since it's 40 miles roundtrip almost all highway or freeway.
