Only real complaint from me is the non adjustable suspension.
I'd love to get a super sport for track riding. Probably would get a cbr600 or gsxr600 since their egos are less sadistic than an r6 lol. But I don't really need that for a street bike. I can go just as fast as you ever should easily on the fz without pushing it beyond its limits. I wouldn't be any faster on the street with a ss than I am with this bike. That being said, when it is time to get a new bike I probably will go the cbr route

I won't go the SS route because of the ergos, but have ridden R1/R6, and Gixxer 750. Gixxer was the most comfortable of the three. Never been on a Honda so can't compare the ergo. I'm thinking FZ1 with a lower fairing (available for some years) or my first choice Ninja 1000. Not getting rid of the 6R though. How are the CBR ergos?

Well, like John said, the FZ6R is plenty fast for street riding; but, I had to know what all the fuss was about with SS, and I had to own one to learn for myself, I am kinda that way with everything; well, now I know, yes a 600SS is faster than the FZ6R, but that power is up top and it is a very energetic experience, definitely exhilarating, but its a lot of energy being transmitted through you above 10K RPM, I just found out at my last service that there are 2 fuel maps on the gixxer, and they cross over, so the top end becomes fully onto this other map and you can feel the bike become very manic above 10K (where the last 30hp reside).
Like I said its exciting, but its a lot of energy, not exactly a relaxed situation. So, I would spend a lot of time thinking about whether you want more HP on the next bike, or more torque (e.g. FZ8 or FZ1). That said, a 600ss keeps you interested cause you are challenged by it, kinda like trying to ride a wild horse, but sometimes you just wish you had one that wasn't so wild.

Well said, thanks for giving your opinion of the SS experience. I've ridden supersports and definitely not the direction I wanna go. I want power through the range. SS's are a lot of fun when you can wind them up.

My CBR 1000 is comfortable (this is relative) it is a small bike 440 lbs wet. However, for my 6' 1" frame I can ride it for hours and hours with no complaints. Though adjustable rear sets would be nice but not a deal breaker.
Thanks, Grumpy! Never sat on a CBR. Don't plan on upgrading anytime soon (certainly not this year), but I will keep all my options open. Now with a lot more experience I feel confident on taking bikes for test rides, where before I was very hesitant.

The things I didn't like about my FZ6r.. The transmission was funky and didn't shift well. The thing that got me the most was the top heaviness of the bike.

Since I know the owner of the store I purchased the bike at. I was able to get out and ride a couple of bikes before I pulled the trigger on the CBR (R1, R6, CBR600). If you can do test rides do it.
Wow, your at least the second person that mentioned shifting (might be more). I love the way my 6R shifts and neutral is always easy to find. I know many here say the type of oil you use makes a huge difference and everyone has their preference. What kind and brand did you use?

Yep, once you taste power, it does seem like it would be hard to go backwards, I really think more torque would be the next step for me. 848 SF would be great, but it's overpriced; FZ1, FZ8, Ninja 1000, CB1000, Z1000 are all contenders, I prolly stay with Japanese for dealer support. Ninja 1000 could be a great 'gentleman's sportbike' for us older guys. I think even the heavier FJR could be great, but further down the road in my mid-50's.

Yamalube*. The problems I had seen on mine and my friends FZ6r were shifting out of neutral, false neutrals, and down shifting when at a stop when not in first. My 2011 and my friends 2012 both did the same thing. You get used to it and how to counter it while riding.
I have 2011 and not really having those issues (also yamalube). Changing to synthetic I was told helps immensely. Have to change soon.

For me to a new b on bikes is a great bike the only thin I don't like about it is the exhaust dam is ugly and expensive to change other then that I love it
The cbr600 egos were relatively comfortable. When you look at the clipons from a cbr and a r6 for instance, the cbr actually seems to have about a half inch of offset that raises them to the same level as the top of the triple clamp. Where the r6 they're below the triple clamp. That half inch plus a slightly lower seat makes a huge difference. Plus while sitting on one at the ims show, the tank felt like it allowed for a more solid feel when locking the outside leg into it when hanging off.
I've ridden a couple of r6s and it was honestly a miserable experience. The 2006 r1 wasn't much better either. I felt like I was just going to fall off the damn things. But the one time I rode a cbr it was only for a few minutes around a parking lot but it was 100% better. I go to the long beach ims show every year and actually spend a lot of time looking at and actually taking mental notes and pictures of all the bikes that i could potentially be interested in. unfortunately unless something major changes at work and I'm suddenly making twice the money I am, I won't be buying a new bike for quite some time. But if I were in the market right now, the cbr600 is a no brainier for me personally.

Needs more power... as in electricity, can't run full heated gear...
Factory luggage option should have been added from the beginning, not an afterthought... now they do have some options out there.
The exhaust is huge.... there was no reason to put on a cat... not required anywhere, just big and heavy... sound didn't bother me too much until I dropped on the ME... now she sounds great, not too loud, and def. not quiet while riding
Chain guard as mentioned... why did they leave an opening right where your leg goes...
Under seat storage... there isn't much... don't know if adding the cowl buys you any room or not... but it's an almost $200 add on...
Windscreen... just off, puts the turbulence right at head to mid chest levels...
most of these though, can be fixed... I mean, it was only a $6-7k bike brand new...

It's lacking if you wanna go up over 100mph on a regular basis on a straight road. Depends on the riders size too. The bike is a little portly (chubby) to begin with. You can put her on a weight loss plan by getting rid of the stock exhaust, fender eliminator, removal of AIS and the list goes on. I probably dropped 15 or more pounds so far of mine. Less weight equals faster acceleration. Exhaust will improve hp by about 5hp and cam swap 5-10hp. Will that make the 6R a R6, no. It will improve performance though. A 150lb rider is going to out accelerate the 200lb rider on the same spec bike. Stock she's close to 80 at the crank. Add some mods and you got a faster bike. Can also replace sprockets for higher top end and PCV will reprogram the limit. Lots you can do and not spend a crap load of money. It's plenty of bike for most riders, even some that have had theirs for 4 years or so. It all comes down to what you want her to do. The 6R will do just about everything under the sun.
