I think that is great. They will be a lot cheaper to buy and maintain compared to the "Royal Malaysian Police’s existing vehicle fleet which includes the Honda ST1300 and the Can-Am Spyder".
I could lose a Spyder on a bicycle. In some European countries the cops run FJR's, and know how to ride them. That's a cop you're not getting away from. Ninja 250 should work in an urban setting, though. Plenty nimble and top speed isn't as much or a factor.
(B.T.W., I do not run cops or endorse it, am simply pointing out the deterrent factor of cops using proper equipment.)
California just stopped buying those. Councours (modified for police duty) is the new CHP standard, though the BMWs will continue in use so long as it's economical to repair them. Many, but not all, local police forces will piggyback on the CHP deal and buy them too, though the local PDs tend to keep bikes around for a lot longer. LAPD still has some of the old Harleys and seem to be willing to keep them so long as the officers assigned to them still want them.
here in virginia all we have are the harley's the state troopers are hard to spot ill tell ya! in spotsylvania they use to use the honda st1100 my buddies shop had two of them on the sales floor.
now this second picture is a memorial set up for a local officer who died on new years day....he was in route to an accident heading south bound coming down a hill at an intersection and a 69 year old driver of a mini van turned left in front of him...as a motorcyclist it hit home... as local news it hit home...and reading about the officer hit home so id like to give my condolences to his family..

Here ya go, the new Concours. They Kawi's are fast!! Some of the beemers out there have over 160K miles!! They use to run them out at 60k miles, but due to the State budget cuts and the lack of new bikes, guys are riding them into the dirt otherwise they would lose their bikes.
If the budget in CA gets worst, we'll be going to pocket bikes!!
I think Malaysia made a smart choice. The insurance and fuel savings are a factor to.
Bikes are confiscated all the time.If they want things beyond a standard model, they can allways keep those instead of auctioning them.
LAPD did that with a new corvette they found at Clarks Crack Shack. That wouldn't of been possible buying one from GM through the departments budget.
The last time I was in Vegas, I saw officers on bicycles lol.A ninja 250 or a crf250 would be a upgrade to some anyway.Id rather have one r1 guarding my twisties than 25 scooters. Most of us would stop for either of them, and I don't wanna be stopped.
I am seeing tons of the BMW's here in cali. Also my uncls body shop does tons of work for the city he he has a consistent flow of old harley's goint to him to be striped of police equipment and painted all black for auction sales.
While economical, those 250's aren't meant to be ridden all day every day. I feel sorry for the sore bums those officer's will have. I hope the department at least puts aftermarket seats on them.
We have those here on the beach too. Very appropriate for patrolling pedestrian areas. Sure, you're not going to catch anybody in a car, but that's not their purpose, it's to patrol in areas where there are no cars, or where congestion prevents cars from moving much at all. You can get down the Vegas strip faster on a bike most nights than you can on most cars or motorcycles. (Unless you get really lucky about splitting lanes.) Here by the beach, a patrol vehicle is useless except for getting kind of close. The guys on mountain bikes catch crooks on foot all the time.
