Well, NOW im broke :( tranny is shot

Everything happens for a reason... that which does not kill us makes us stronger kinda thing. You'll figure things out and all will be well. At least you can go ride for a bit to relieve the stress! (my little sister lives in Bend, btw)

I would so be riding right now but we can hardly get above 50 and rain right now :( Thats cool you have fam here! I love the area, but the weather is pretty bi-polar haha. Although those out east sure are having it bad with the tornado's and all so I'll keep my mouth shut about a little cold and rain. Wish them all the best out there. :(

Well, it just got a bit more expensive... over $2k now. We are of course gonna have to keep the car for a LONG time now, so its also due for timing belt and water pump, etc. So that added a bit more. AND the rear passenger wheel bearing/hub assembly is shot. I knew it was bad... but since everything else is getting fixed, might as well. I can do that myself though so save some money there.

Good news is, my work gave me all the money to fix the car and will just take whatever I want them to out of my checks till its paid off. So even if it takes a couple years, they said they are fine with that. That definitely helps the money burden a lot! And it sure as hell beats throwing it all on a credit card with 15% interest! I would have waited on the timing belt/pump stuff, but since they are loaning me the money and it needs to be done... So the car is going to hopefully last a LONG time now.

That's great news J... =)

Car repair can be a money pit. But, if you maintain them well & keep them for at least over 10 years, overall it's still cheaper than lease/ car payments.

Jay, another thing came to mind.

My sis n bro in law have a 2001 civic. And u know what? They had the same issue around 3 years ago. Their car is also well over 100k miles...Here's what happened. They were going to give up too. But they talked to their Honda dealer. And apparently Honda is well aware of tranny fails on that model year civic. It's prevalent. But, Honda refused to do an official recall on it cuz they are assholes. So what Honda did for my sis n bil is they agreed split the cost of the repair to salvage some of Honda's good name. Otherwise, my sis n bil were going to dump the car n swear off Honda for good... Their portion of the repair costs ended up being around $7 or $800 I think.

I owned a 1991 civic years ago too.. And similar issue but with my distribution housing. The thing just cracked and u could see sparks shooting out of it like fireworks. Honda totally shunned me. My own repair shop told me Honda knows of the problem but kept brushing it under the carpet. They told me they saw at least half a dozen cars per month- civics & acrua integras all with the same problem. But Honda played hard ball.

For this reason I will never buy anything Honda ever again. It's just principle. They screwed my family not once but twice.

That's also y I refuse to get a CBR

Got the car back, all is very nice with it. Smooth, noise free (except for the wheel bearing, gonna do that myself). They also adjusted the valves for me at no cost since he had the valve cover off for the timing belt. So it should last a looooong time now. Hopefully.

Now Im just stuck owing my work $2k :(

Great Im glad to hear it JSP :) Itll all work out! 2k is alot, but in the grand scheme of it all, your vehicle is now tip top! I wouldnt worry to much :)

I'd give you $2K for your R6... :rof: :noworries:

seriously though, glad they were able to help out and you know the car will be reliable for years to come.

Whhhaaaaaa???? :D Yeah, I think we could make that deal haha. Just pay me $8k for shipping (and handling $$$) and we have a deal!

Damn, i want to ride so bad!!!! This weekend should be nice, think I will go on a nice long long ride. Hopefully get some video too.

Thats great news J... ^_^

More Honda BS... One of my friends Alex has a 2007 CBR600RR that he bought from his gf's brother- who got married and wife made him sell the bike. It's been maintained nearly immaculately.

Anyhow, engine seized up at 6k+ miles and is DOA. (???) Honda looked at it & told Alex they can't do anything for him. but they can replace the engine to the tune of like $3k+. So, he's buying a remanufactured engine and just having a local shop do the engine swap instead for a lot less.

Honda Honda Honda.

How they got the reputation for being the most reliable and most customer friendly manufacturer completely eludes me.
