The wave.

I find that I only get a wave from a sport biker. The cruisers ignore me and so do the scooters and touring bikes.
The sport bikes ALWAYS just extend the left hand below and parallel to the grip outwards completely off the bar and all fingers together. I do the same. ALL the sport bikes in my area do the same wave unless going the opposite direction on the freeway.

I even get a CHP biker give me the same wave once in a while.

I'm reviving this thread because I have a funny (or blonde) story about waving....

So, I'm riding into work early this morning just before the sun had come up. I'm cruising a two-lane road and see a single headlight coming at me. As it gets closer, I put my left arm out and give a little wave to the side. Then, as its just off my 10 O'clock.....I see its a POS car with a burnt out right headlight! Tell me I'm not the only one waving at cagers posing as motors?!? :D

lol, I've done it too!

i wave to everyone, get most of the sportbike and sport-touring crowd, some cruisers, and even the 2 cops on bikes will wave now and then.

Wave at everyone , don't always get a response . :surrender:
I do the left hand off grip sport bike wave , but a lot of times I am riding with my left hand on my left leg . so either raise it or just drop it off and out .
I forgot to do a search first , think someone will flame me ! :)

"oh and one time i waved to a guy on a new 500cc or less suzuki gixer wannabe"

Someone was talking about "terms"...well, that my friends is a statement that comes from a true "Gixxer Squid" :rof: That's a pretty funny thread. It's amazing the way some people think. :shakehead:

Oh, and no, they didn't wave back! jerks... :)

Or have you.... While riding in your car/truck with window down and arm on the door frame, done the down low wave to an oncoming bike out of instinct??? :D I will plead the fifth... ;)

I usually give the "rock on" sign down low to the left... you know, the old devil horns and tail.. index, pinky and thumb out...

I draw the line at those annoying E-bikes though. No wave for you! :spank:

Yep, I wave to everybody. Don't care what your riding. That's how I roll.

I've done that many times, and get a wave by some that are paying attention and know who I am.

if i'm waved at, i'll try to wave back if it's safe... otherwise, i'll just nod my helmet in their direction.

most of the time u can sorta already tell if an on-coming biker is wave friendly or not by their body language. the friendly ones are already shifting a little and getting ready to wave. in those cases, i get ready to nod or wave if i can.

the other ones that look glued to the road and not looking around usually are not wavers. so, with those guys i figure there's no need for me to initiate a wave, cuz they prolly not going to wave back anyways.

funny thing is that scooter riders always seem to want to wave to me. and, i remember telling my friends about this at the bike meet a while back. and, one of my female friends who rides a GSXR made a funny comment about how scooter riders are overly enthusiastically lame about waving and she told me not to wave back at them. hahahaha :P

I try to wave whenever it is safe to, everyone around my area tends to do the low 45 degree peace sign. It is pretty mixed results as to when they do it back, nods work well too for corners or heavy traffic. Also, i'll admit, when I am in a good mood and am the first car in line at a stop light I will do a stupid dance and see how many cages I can get to honk at me hahaha. I doubt it, but has anyone else done this? :D

One wave all the time for me. Low arm out. Doesnt really matter what fingers are open. I just give a wave down low. :D

Thats basically the same rule of thumb that I follow, and I rarely give the wave first, I only return them.
