Howdy folks,
My appologies for the lengthy absence but I have been convalescing these last 80 or so days as a result of my infinite stupidity and wounded pride.
Heres a pic of the stupidity part...
"How the hell did you do that?" you ask...
I was on my way home, about 10:00 pm'ish, and decided to take a detour to the lake just down the road from my house, just to see it (the moon was out), and I was at the top of a small hill with a downward right hand turn when a car came up the opposite way.
Because of deer and other critters that sometimes run out in front vehicles, I typically stick to the center of the road inside my neighborhood unless there are head lights ahead at which time I will move to the right side of the road to avoid death.
I guess I was doing about 30-35 mph, didn't notice the beams of light coming up the other side of the hill until it was to late and I panic breaked. I grabbed too much front and the ass end got too light and started to come around on my left. I don't remember any of the next 5 minutes.
Judging from the evidence, I lowsided in such a way that the front left wheel of the car hit the layed down front wheel of the bike and spun everything around. I must have hit my right side pretty hard when I went down.
I was however wearing all my gear and kept all my flesh. Aside from the shoulder, I bruised a few ribs, twisted my right knee and ankle and walked away from it.
Heres the repair...
1 Titanium plate ($3,500), 9 titanium screws ($1,580) plus doctors, hospital expenses, emergency room and whatever else...total about $25,000 out of pocket as I have no health insurance. Luckily, I'm not doing so bad that I can't afford to pay over time (a long time).
All in all its not so bad. I only used the pain killers for the first week after surgery and overall the pain was minimal at its worse.
Oh, the bike was a total loss. Insurance paid up the balance of the account and sent me a check for $3,200. I have no pictures of the bike, sorry.
This was not my first accident on a motorcycle (I can't count them all on 2 hands) but it was by far the worst. First broken bone I have ever had. I will say this though...having a wreck like that at 44 hurts alot longer that it did when I was in my 20's.
I will get another bike and another and another until I cannot. It will be a little while before I can afford one though so I will have to live vicariously through you fine folks in the mean time.
Also, I have some nice things to sell. Heres the link...http://www.600cc.org/forum/f34/fs-mods-i-didnt-get-do-26794/
Its nice to be back. Cheers
