There doesn't have to be an 18 wheeler blocking the view of a driver who can't see you, but in this video, that's exactly what happened. This was by no means a close call, however if I hadn't anticipated that something like this would happen, it could have been or worse.

I continued slowing even though I knew the driver would clear my path because I wasn't sure if the SUV behind him saw me either.

Be safe and remember to always ride as if you are invisible.

Sorry about the vibration - that happens no matter where I mount the camera between 4000 and 5000 RPM.

Oh side note - the place on the left is the "Salt Lick" BBQ restaurant. It is pretty famous, though I actually don't care for their food. This is where Rick Perry had is celebration dinner when he won reelection in Texas.

Doesn't even need to be a bike. I've watched cars collide in similar scenarios. And I've watched the most horrific wrecks between cars at intersections where you'd never have expected it. I've just learned, no matter if I'm on the bike, in the cage, flying a plane, or on foot; act like people operating vehicles are just out to see you dead.

We've had three fatal pedestrian strikes by cars in just the last week in Spokane County here in Washington.

Last year in May, shortly before I got my bike, I watched the Scion xB four car lengths in front of me slam right into a woman in a PT cruiser that ran a stop sign thinking there wasn't one (even though the damned thing is twice normal size with flashing lights above and below it and a sign below all that saying "thru traffic does not stop"). She was doing 40, he was doing 55. Flipped the Scion xB in front of me, spun the PT Cruiser almost twice.

I also remember a car doing about 50 or 60 to beat a red light 15 seconds after it had turned red taking out the SUV in front of me. Spun it around and tore the front end off both vehicles.

So as I said before, doesn't matter what mode of transportation you're in. The only factor you have control over is yourself. It's safer to assume the other people are not acting in the best interests of your safety, let alone theirs.

They see us, they just don't care.
Even if you are in a cage they will do it.

Very good video!!! you just never know you have to assume people are going to do what you dont EXPECT them to do. You did so well in slowing down to give youself enough room if the person did pull out on you! always better safe than sorry. my husband and i were in a terrible motorcycle crash where we thought the guy saw us, and he pulled out anyways even though we were with the flow of traffic! its a scary world!
