Pants!?

Lots of factors are involved in a crash, impact, sliding on asphalt,... etc. How much or little....? Leathers are great for the track because there's area to slide and they won't shred. On the open road leathers won't help you sliding into concrete or trees, barriers....etc. Wear the most protection you're comfortable with, have options. I'm looking into these!

Replica Medieval Suits of Armor

Cortech Venture overpants. A little warm for days over 75. They say they are water proof. I've had 2 pairs and neither one was. I wear frog togs over top of them and it is. The combo work great for protecting the leather jacket and providing a significant amount of warmth.

Jon I agree with you 100% that armor is better than Kevlar jeans for impact. But Kevlar jeans will be far better than regular jeans for sliding against gravel.

For what ever reason you can't get leather pants go with both. The armor and Kevlar jeans. There are some really fugly arse Kevlar jeans out there. Do some shopping to find some your style. Shift Kevlar Jeans have a classic jeans look. (just saying...unless your a youngster that buys low rise girls jeans, squeeze in your package and sag them while wearing 3 pairs of boxers, with sequins lined dragon running from cuff to pocket.)

Here's a random clip of Kevlar jeans in action. Any brand of Kevlar jeans will do:

I really like Knox products.

Icon's new armor is all CE certified this year:

and of course Astars:

These are just recommendations. There are other great manufactures out there too. Do your own research and buy what ya like. Just make sure it's CE certified.

Thanks Jon and everyone for your recommendations. I guess I need to go to Bert's tomorrow now. <lol>. Or I may just order some Knox shorts from sportbiketrackgear.com. They won't get here in time for Sundays ride tho. <sigh>

Don't forget, if you find a cheaper price on something online that Bert's has in the store, they will price match! They don't advertise that a lot for us locals!

Ah. Ok. Didn't know that. lol

Berts is great. I took advantage of an Astars textile jacket(stunt2) they advertised for $135 on a sale event. It was supposed to be the older stunt jacket for sale. Nothing the manager could do but honor it.

Yah Bert's is like a candy store. ^_^

100% right there. Jeans will last less than a second against pavement in a crash. Riding pants are not just good to rid yourself of road rash and cushioning your joints, but are also important in keeping the wound clean in the case of something like a compound fracture. This could help save you later from some of the life threatening effects of infection.

i learned to ride by taking a safety course. the instructor did not recommend regular jeans as they provide no impact or abbrasion resistance and the denim itself is rather infectious if it gets into a wound, and would need to be scrubbed out and sterilized. i'm thinking it's the dyes used in the production process

Sure thing, Jay. I hear Frederick has some great places to ride.

Frederick..!! yep i think that is correct... but have not rode that part allot.. you definetily need to ride rt.211 AKA Lee hwy the part thats close to Skyline drive entrance got some real serious twisties.. also it got nice twisties just before New Market too.. luckly Don (Dart1963) introduced me to it last year..

Any luck on the Pants!!?

Short term, I got some exterior knee/shin guards. They are made by No Fear, and I got them for about $20. They bend and flex at the knee, and have three velcro straps on each. They are a bit uncomfortable to wear for long rides, and I've noticed some slight scrapes on my rear seat from them.

Long term, I'll be getting some kevlar jeans with something less bulky to go under them. I'd imagine I'll get them within the next few weeks- should be my next bike-related purchase.

I bought Revit Gear Pants over the winter, snug fitting and come with upgraded knee protection, they are a mix of leather and nylon. Expensive but cheaper than skin and bones :iconbeer:
