Noise when slowing down

Ever since Ive had my bike with the zero miles off the sales floor ive noticed a slight odd noise when Im slowing down mostly to a stop. like im not sure how to descirbe the sound but ive curious what it is. kinda like a small whinin noise of some kind. it doesnt effect anything at all like performance, the brakes are great just a noise is all. so was wondering if this was normal if there was somethin goin on that i dont know about. and if im rollin slowly at like 2-35 mphs is when i really hear it. and if i give it any throttle at all the noise stops. any info would be great

If you are braking when you hear it, it most likely the noise of the pads against rotors. It is normal for motorcycles and nothing to worry about if that is the case.

All leads to the windscreen, he mentioned the brakes already and how he notices its just a noise. Now you don't brake while accelerating 2 - 35mphs would you?

If it's a "buzz" type of sound, then put your hand up near the windshield, if it stops, see the other referenced thread, if it is a noise only when applying the brakes, then it is probably normal. You might start to notice the front breaks squeal a lot after they are broke in, that to (annoying as it is) is normal, but can be fixed (use search)...

P.S. I lived right down the road from Chillicothe, many moons ago, great area to have a bike, nice back roads everytwhere.

I think you're hearing the chain noise that a lot of people have commented on.

This bike does have a lot of "normal" noises. So I would say that if you are hearing a noise and nothing smells funny, is falling off or smoking, then chances are it's one of our "normal" noises and is nothing to worry about. :thumbup:

I have a concern. I've seen no one post this and that is what concerns me. I seem to have a noise from the front area. A wind noise like wind is gushing into a hollow area of the bike. Makes a noise as if you blow out your mouth mildly while not closing enough to whistle. I notice it at speed 20+ but at some point my crappy helmet has little wind noise cancellation I can't hear poo. My alt helm is a bit better on wind but the bike noise is apparent.

Every vehicle has them, it's how we know something isn't right. When the "normal" noises change pitch, get louder or go away, then that's the time to start looking for what is going on.

It'd be kind of nice for someone with a camera to put up a short video on "normal" sounds our bike makes, go through rpm band, mount the camera in a couple different spots, etc. And maybe that would help a little.

Here's what you do... Go rent a Harley touring model and ride it for a couple of hours. Then get back on your FZ6R......... you will no longer complain about vibrations and noises.

I must be deaf, I don't really hear anything when I'm on mine. Could it be something the the non functioning air scoops circulating the wind?

I think the "whine" that's being described is either the chain or the transmission. If it stops when you pull in the clutch it's the tranny. As for the air rushing noise, look at the front of the bike. From down by the forks and the bottom of the bodywork, there's a big opening to go over the radiator and air escapes up over the tank between the body work. Makes kind of a tunnel right? You blow some wind through there at 20mph and up and it's going to make some wind noise.

Everyone's got to remember that you're not in a car with insulation and rubber seals isolating you from the elements. You're going to hear noises that you're not used to if you're not used to being on a bike. Like was mentioned above, you sit on a Harley like I have and ride that for 5 minutes and you'll be happy to hear and feel how smooth and quiet a sport bike really is.

Thanks everyone for the info. Like I said the noise has always been there but nothing at all is effected by it. So like most of you said its prolly breakin in noise and will prolly go away at some point. Just wanted to make sure it wasnt anything goin bad that I didnt know. But I ride almost everyday and esp if the weather allows me, haha and everything is sound as a pound so Im not worried. Just tryin to double check is all. Thanks everyone.
