Looks like I'm geting a reliable car before another bike!

So as many know I totaled out my fz6r recently and been looking at new bikes. After talking to my family.. and my 95 trans-am is becoming less reliable as it ages and more things go wrong with it and me traveling 60miles a day is killing my wallet. I've decided to get a car. A member of a riding group I am with passed away a few months ago in a motorcycle accident (truck ran a light and hit him) and his wife assumed his debts and is looking for someone to take the 2010 mazdaspeed3 he was driving. She owes about 15k on it but just wants someone to take over on payments or refinance for the payoff and transfer it. It has a bit of money into it, full cob tune,exhaust,intake inter-cooler the works. I've decided its more logical for me to have a more reliable car before I get a brand new bike so I'm in the dealings of geting this car then attempting to sell the trans-am and purchase a used bike. Let me know what you think?

and yes.... the passion for riding is sometimes beaten by the reality of the situation... I know if I were to total my bike it would be a few years before I could get a new one, hence why I am very cautious with my ride... and like you, I'll never finance a ride again... will save up and buy outright, one less worry.

I completely agree. In honesty soon as my bikes payed off I could go finance a brand new bike but honestly I'm thinking that I need a more reliable car to get me to work everyday and and a good car to have when the weather conditions arent right for rideing. 95 trans am leaks a bit and is just not so much a daily driver without a bike. Bike isn't "needed" and just a toy yea I loved having my bike but now that im looking at the situation its much smarter for me to have reliable car and a bike that I'll own outright!

I loved my 2008.5 Mazdaspeed3. Metro Gray Mica as well. When the wife and I got approved for our mortgage, car had to go. I was pretty much full bolt-on as well. Sometimes it's just gotta go. Taking over payments might be a good idea. I got HOSED on my trade in going to a Corolla, but otherwise wouldn't have been able to afford the house. Gotta put on your big boy pants sometimes.


I miss boost. Sometimes think about selling the bike for boost. It's like crack!

sounds like its an ok deal... i always liked the little mazda speed hatchback but im not a huge fan of mazda... after ford bought 2/3 of the company... but with all the bolt ons and the condition it looks to be in looks like a good deal, i wish i could dump some fun money int the yaris... but then i just talk my self down by saying i have a bike then i spend more money on my bike XD

i do have a AFE stage 2 intake on the yaris, a jet chip mass air flow sensor and voxx racing rims but most of that i did out of needed repairs or before i got the bike!

on top of having a plan, some times you need another source of transportation... with the way gas is now its better to have an efficient car when you need it than not to have one at all.

im still waiting for a 32mpg pick up truck to come to the states!

Now my wifes brother, he insists on getting a bike for his first vehicle thinking that he can just borrow his mom/dads vehicle if he ever needs a cager.. Not very realist in MN!!! Also not very smart for a 30 year old that still lives at home and doesnt work!

Very very true!! I love the idea also of paying outright for the bikes. Thats what I did on my 6R. But wont be able to do it on the next bike I get (increasingly looking like FJR). But I plan on having as large a DP as possible (prefer a 50% minimum DP since it is pleasure and not required for transportation like car), and DEFINATELY take out gap insurance on the loan I do take.

I'm 29 and I can't even count the vehicles i've owned when I wear flip flops.

I know, Pathetic isnt it?! He doesnt work (every job he has quit after about 2 weeks because he "doesnt like the mgr, or this or that happened". Longest job he had was in High School and then a few years ago, but he quit just 1 week before he qualified for insurance. (same reasons). Relys on his parents for use of their vehicles and $. Mother won let dad kick him out, I think because of empty house syndrome (youngest daughter died when she was 18) so he is the last "baby in the house". He had a car when 16, but they didnt maintain at all, went to junkyard after about 18 months. No car since. He also has a bad knee spur and back issues, but he always talks like he will be able to handle an SS no problem that is what he needs for a bike, nothing else. I just think "yeah right". LOL
