jspansel's P90X adventure/journal (Pics Added)

I have been really big into trying to get healthy since about feb. this year. Out of the acadamy I was 215 in about a years time I was up to 240 , Since Feb. I have been running and lifting weights hardcore everyother day and have not had much sucess in getting rid of my gut but have gotten pretty big everywhere else. I finally have deceided to put the weights down and go with a hardcore cardio program. Insanity is tough , its the hardest thing I have ever done , but in three weeks I have lost almost 4 inches off my waist alone. If your trying to lose weight , this is the way to go , Ive tried some of the P90X workouts and its good for getting ripped but .......you need to get the fat burned off before you go into something like that. The workouts in the first month range from 40 minutes to about 60 , second month add about another 15 minutes . Its really worked for me , If I could post pictures on here I would but I still havent been able to figure out how the hell to do that .

(My disclaimer- If you have bad knees or a bad back Insanity is not for you):zombie: <-- I was walking like this guy after the first few days of the program but everyday Im getting stronger and Its helped me quit smoking because theres no way after doing this youll want anything to smoke

Been a good few days. I have been eating really good and following the guide fairly well. No gorging or any real sweets.

I weighed in at 220 this morning... after 4 days of this stuff I gained a pound? I know I shouldnt be watching the scale this soon, still seems I should have lost something instead of gained? Hope its just muscle... I've had my heart rate up where it should be and sweating like a pig though.

Not discouraged by any means. Just need to stick with it and see where it tames me ;)

Running distance is all about pacing yourself. I weigh just under 300lbs, next sunday I'm running my first 10k.

Sure most folk will walk the thing faster than I will run it but they ain't lugging 300lb of flab :).

Strangely my issue with running wasn't my knees or the pains in my shins, just that I was running too fast. Slow it down, roll through the stride, you might be overtaken by a dog walker but you'll suddenly realise running isn't as hard as you made it out to be.

Contrary to what's said here though, none of the runners in my local club, even the ultra marathoners believe you lose much weight when running. It's all about the added goodness of a balanced healthy diet that causes the weight loss.

Have to say despite moving from 0.5 mile stints of hell to 6 miles in the last 4 months I have to agree.

I'm still the same weight now as when I started but no longer wheezing when just walking down the street.

The way I figure it... If this guy can do it

Oh running distance doesnt hurt me. My leg muscles are trained more for explosive/strength output rather than endurance.

I compete (am. Raw powerlifting) in the 165lb weight class.

My current lower body lifts are:

Squats: 455lbs
Deadlift: 550lbs

ok Jay.... how's it going :zombie:
Yeah, thats about how I feel right now! :D

Its going pretty good though. I need to really focus on my stretching after the workouts. Ive had my triceps go out on me the first day and now my neck has been in severe pain the last 2 days. Its feeling much better today though. These are some intense workouts.

From the pound I gained, I have now lost 3. I am at 217 right now. Even though I have been aching, I actually feel really good besides that. I have been eating great. We had an all day meeting yesterday at work and they had tons of cookies and huge doughnuts. Did not eat but 1 small cookie. My urges for the junk food have been almost non existent. I have not stuck this long to a work out regimen since football in school. After doing it for a week now, it has for sure given me the self confidence that I can do it and keep doing it. My energy level is 10x what it was before I started. Eating the right food, having my metabolism boosted and exercising works great...

I actually LOVE doing the Plyometrics that others all seem to hate. Its a calorie killer for sure. 3 more weeks and I will put up my day 1 and then day 30 pic. I feel I am making great progress.

Awesome work! It only gets better from here. I'm planning to start my next round on Monday. But I'm going to do a hybrid with some Insanity workouts mixed in. Should be interesting.

UPDATE:

Ok, still going strong :D

Injuries seem to be subsiding and coming on less and less. I am learning better form and stretches which help a lot!

I am at 214 lbs this morning! Very happy with that. Just barely 2 weeks in. Now that I have changed my eating habits and eat smaller, more often, I am much less hungry when it comes to the main meals. I have no urges to just stuff my face. :wav:

I may have put on 70lbs in two years after stopping my bodybuilding regiments.....but Im still fit which is weird. I smoke(quitting actually) but have for 2 years and I could go run a mile right now. Id be beat at the end but I can. Im pretty impressed how long a body can sustain the muscle memories and all after so long and even after gaining all that weight!

Good luck jsp Keep going strong

Congrats on the marathon finish marthy.

Finished my 10k last sunday. Ran throughout, not exactly super speed but I wasn't last and I had an awesome sprint finish.

Downside, I think I have myself a stress fracture of my 5th metatarsal bone. Can't put any weight down on my right foot.

time: 1 hr 27m target: 1hr 30m so I'm happy.

300lbs I may be but I still ran those 6.22 miles. Next stop 10 miles in march then half marathon, providing my foot heals up soon.
