Thanks for the updates on the cam swap . Sounds like you are getting closer to a solution .
Yeah 112* to 114* is about right . Good idea on the slots to advance or retard .

Intake spec

IVO 38 BTDC
IVO 0 @ 1mm
IVC 3 ABTC @ 1mm
ICV 9 ABDC

ILC 102 deg.

As you can see, not much we can do on those cams. The duration is so minimal that if we are to aggressive on the ILC, we won't have any overlap.

I could do the exhaust... need to work on some proper tooling. FZ6 cams are the way to go I believe...

I've been looking around to buy a shim kit to adjust the valves. They come in 3 different size. 7.48mm, 9.48mm and 8.90mm. Anyone know what is the outside diameter of the shims for the 6R? I just can't find any info...

Funny that, not a jot in the workshop manual regarding the diameter of the shims:confused:

Big respect for what you are doing; I once did the clearances on my 20-valve fzr1000exup. I do reckon you are onto something 'dialling' the camshaft timings in, on the exup you could liberate a lot more power doing this - the best bit it is easier on the fz6r. I was considering putting an FZ6 complete head on, which would have a similar effect. I wonder if all of the oil ways, dowels etc line straight up?

Keep up the good work marthy, every army needs a pathfinder:D

Best of luck, marthy. Shame the frame is so different on the fz6 or we could just bolt and go. Fz6 frame is prettier and lighter too :(

Funny visually I thought the two looked real close , I had my bike next to a FZ6 and the power plants mounting points looked the same , but I did not have the faring off to inspect all of them . Wish we had access to info such as frame and mounting point data .

Sorry guys... I went on Wednesday to borrow a lathe to mod the timing gear... busy. I'll stop by tomorrow after work. Once that done is a matter of few hours to bolts them in and time them up. Let's say one or two good evening. I will need to adjust the valve at the same time...

Just want to let you know I wasn't blowing smoke out of my a$$. I will get it done! lol

Crap! The only person I know who I can borrow his lathe for a hour or so was in a hurry to leave today after work... If I had a lathe at work I could have done that on my lunch time. I found a machine shop not far from here... hope they won't rape me! Kind of suck paying for something you can easily do yourself. I need to get that done so I can install the cams!

Before I get thrown under the bus like modding the rear frame.... lol

Drop off the timing gears to be machine... picking them up later, before 4:00pm. Leaving for Montreal next Wesnesday... look like that will be my first 2012 project. Can't wait!

Timing gears are machined... I want to do it right away so freaking bad! Got 2 dinner party for the next 2 days and still some shopping to do before leaving for the motherland.

I'm turning 40 (on the 25th...) So I wanted to be with with my family and good old friends. Snow is kind of cool for about a week anyway...
