Is gaining 4 hp worth $700 or more ?
Just trying to get a mind set as to what people think is a good trade off here , $700+ for a gain of 4 hp , is that really what to expect ?
I mean these bikes are what they are and 4 hp is not a lot and I seriously doubt that it would be that great of difference , SOTP dyno or maybe belief that the $700+ you just spent really did something , after all it just had to right !!!!!!!! :D
Thoughts , opinions .

i go back to the theory of, have you ever used every bit the 6r has to offer. i know i havent. and no i dont think anyone could tell a 4 hp difference.

I've not yet been in a situation where 4 more HP would have made the difference. You might be able to feel it a bit, but do you need to beat someone somewhere by a couple of bikelengths?

I think its a combination of sorts... The $700 ish (im assuming you are referring to exhaust).

They are getting looks, sound, some performance gain (noticeable or not), etc. People like to modify their personal items and make it their own, different than right off the floor.

Why do a FE kit? Why do any cosmetic mod at all? Its personal preference. I doubt people are doing it totally for the performance gain. You have to look at the other aspects of modifying your bike.

If its not worth spending the money to you, then dont. If you turely want a higher performance bike, you will need to spend lots and lots of money or just upgrade to a different bike.

I guess you need to ask yourself, how much does that $700 mean to you? I'd rather spend that on other things, but if you've got that laying around, then, why not?

I would say, do it if you want the look and sound, not because you think 4 HP will make a difference.

Biggest thing is individuality and personal taste.

But you are neglecting to account for the weight reduction as well.....

OP I agree 100%. Which is why my signature says what it says lol :D 4HP could be made up with good and big set of balls lol j/k

For this bike I would spend money on handling, brakes, etc...which ever improves cornering. I'd also spend the money if I tour'd more. Wind protection, bags, electrical accessories, etc.

But I've come to understand this bike is really diverse and you can do anything you want with it. Even with all my issues with this bike I still love it.

My butt dyno says either I got a lot more torque or closer to 8HP out of my exhaust upgrade. Probably both....HP alone isn't the answer, torque is when accelerating. Either way the difference is HUGE....It isn't just a bit faster, it's a whole lot faster. I can pull the front end up easier than stock and I have a 1 tooth larger primary sprocket. That equates to a bike with a lot more acceleration speed and power than stock with the RPM at 6000 and doing 70 mph. It's a +8 mph over stock in any given gear. I lost nothing as far as torque and bottom end and gained tons of power at any RPM and or gear.

So I get down the road a whole lot faster than stock. I'm at 104 mph from street, up on-ramp onto freeway (just over 1/8 mile) with a taller gear setup.

Viper 199.00 delivered
Header 35.00 delivered
misc fittings 35.00
PCV 235.00 delivered
paint 10.00
torch and propane tank 12.00

Labor was free so the total is 526.00....The difference is worth every penny.

going the TB route + PCV is quite too much for about the same result..

I agree with Marthy. Depending on the deals you can find on an R6 header and PCV etc, you cab easily do this for under $550.00 while the TBR + PCV is about $1,000.00. The torque/HP gain is the same either way and may even be better with the R6/Viper setup. The $100.00 per hp drops to $55.00 if you fab the mod yourself.

I would think the point is not whether 4HP is "worth it", but rather are mods part of the hobby you are interested in. If you want to tinker with the bike, and enjoy that part of motorcycling, then go for it. $700 is the price for your curiosity and the excitement of trying something, and it will personalize your bike as well.

A word to the wise......

I installed Race Tech springs front and rear to match my body weight and Metzler Interac M5 tires, SS brake lines, scintered brake pads as well as a few more mods for better handling, braking and stability before I boosted the HP.

Could you imagine a 250 HP VW beetle? Death on wheels......

Build a good foundation before going for power/speed mods...Just my 2 cents.

Marthy,

I had the Viper mounted low to begin with and it hit every speed bump and low spot in intersections for water flow when it rains.
I moved it up and a little out to clear the brake pedal and the first thing I did was grind off a rivet on Mulholland Dr. on a hard right.
So I extended it further back and it's out of the way and sounds better. Under the bike the sound gets buried in the ground. Up higher the exhaust note is better to my ears and I think easier for the cagers to hear.

Also I feel the bike has more power with a longer pipe. Look at the MotoGP bikes. I always wondered why they had such long pipes going all the way to the rear and now I know. Better scavenging.....more HP......

They don't F with me anymore that's for sure.
