Plasti-dip the whole thing?

Hey all,

So a buddy of mine and I were talking and he told me about this website called DipYourCar.com -Plasti Dip For Your Car - Resources & More at DipYourCar.com NEW Glossifier.
He said that for much cheaper than a paint job, he could make his entire Chevy Tahoe matte black. This got me wondering.... could I do the same to my bike?

I have a black 2011 model, so there is only one small decal on the side fairings. I'm thinking that with a gallon of plasti-dip and a spray brush (about $100.00 total) I could easily make my bike look like a frikkin bat mobile.

I've always been a sucker for matte black, but I was wondering if anyone a) doesn't think this is possible, b) has done it before, or c) thinks it will add a significant amount of weight to the bike...

Remove the decals on the fairings and just do the tank with maybe 2 cans and you're golden.

They sell the cans at home depot for 5.99. You would prolly only need need 2-4 cans to do the whole bike. And if ya don't like it, it peels right off. And the thicker and more costs you put on the easier it is when you want to take it off.

What about the glossy part under the rear seat? How should I go about that?

I wouldn't do the whole bike, sounds good but your forgetting about parts that will be hard to get to, not to mention the parts you may not be able to bet to. Then you may have to worry about parts that may get hot. Plasti dip is only good for certain temp. I did my forks only and it came out great. Just my 2 cents I wouldn't push the issue with plasti dip!

Well obviously I'm not gonna do the whole thing just the parts that are shiny.
The gas tank
The side fairings
The wind screen
The front fairing (where the head light is)
The forks
The handle bars
The front fender
The shiny part under the passenger seat

That's the plan, anyway...

Same here, I will do the entire portion of the bike that doest reach the max temp for the plasti dip, but def doing the matte black route during winter so it'll keep me close to my baby on those cold nights haha

It should be fine as long as you don't mind having to redo it every time it starts to peel off. It's not the most durable stuff (the spray on plasti dip anyway; the actual dip is tough as nails), which is both good and bad.

but they were also building a race bike where every gram weight savings could mean a win or a lose, we are talking about a FZ6R, you can strip it down to nothing and it wont matter in your day to day commute.

I'm calling BS on that video. I don't care what they say, they went with the asymetrical lights because that's their thing. Plain and simple, they wanted to be different and distinct. I don't know why they'd lie about that. It may have very well saved them 300 grams, but even if it had added 300 grams, they would have done it.

I know WD-40 eats it for sure... Turns it all nice and gooey.

Not sure on that... I was using it to remove some from my car. It got pretty gooey and gummed up. Peeled off much easier.
