He was talking about brake cleaner not brake fluid. Yeah brake fluid will definetely instantly eat right through paint.that's why you gotta be careful when bleeding brakes and adding brake fluid to the reservoir.
I just realized now he said brake fluid. WE DO NOT USE BRAKE FLUID AT THE DEALER TO CLEAN CARS. ;)

I doubt anyone uses brake cleaner too. That crap eats plastic in a hurry!

The ingredients in brake cleaner will eat ABS plastic.

Brake Cleaner Ingredients | eHow.com

Acetone and ABS plastic powder is what ABS glue is made from and it eats the fairing on an FX6R and a Triumph Daytona and just about every other bike out there. It will also eat paint.

What particular brand of brake cleaner do you use?
Maybe is is a cum baya green version that is dolphin safe?

We use at the shop 3M. Next time we have a car that needs some clean up.. I'm gonna use it and record it.

Never tried on bike ABS plastic but bumper plastic and trim panels around the car we never had a problem.
Found this video.. at "4:00" he uses brake cleaner to remove glue out of car. and wolahhhh... Paint still there.

What I did to remove stickers off my tank was a blow dryer. Heat that sticker up real hot, it becomes pliable, easy to remove. I then used WD40 to clean up the adhesive that was left.

i use a chemical called 'cut-thru' to take decals off my bike, truck, helmets, tar/road oil off anything. also works good on cleaning the chain.

I would never use brake cleaner, that stuff scares me.

Is it this one?

Ingredient C.A.S.
Hydrotreated Light Naptha (Petroleum)
Propane
Xylene
Methyl Alcohol
Ethylbenzene
Toluene

Basically just naptha with some other solvents mixed in in small amounts. There isn't enough xylene, benzene or toluene to even get high off of. I wear a moon suit and respirator to spray catalyzed varnish and xylene with a hi vol low pressure gun so make sure the place is well ventilated. Xylene is very nasty stuff. Toluene is what got kids high off the old Revell glue for plastic models. They don't sell toluene to kids anymore.
Toluene works real good to clean off varnish.

Naptha ain't bad tho....

Update: I took the bike to a shop that did some major body work on my car after an incident. They told me they could sand the top of the tank and re-clear coat it, buff it, all for 2-3 hours of labor tops at $50 an hr.
