Just started DJ'ing recently. No gigs or anything but I got a Traktor S2, LOVE IT!! Anyways I am getting a bit better and would love it if anyone who's interested would check out my recent mix and Comment/critique/ or even Crap on :p Here is the link and it's downloadable if you like it. not bad dude, just needs some filtering and shit to be a little more smooth some of the transitions just sound/ feel raw... but its not like you got a platinum record recording booth and software and what not so no biggie sounds pretty good keep workin at it!

Sounds cool. Always wanted to do it. Almost bought some equipment the other day but a question came to my mind? (how do you learn it? go to class? try and fail? online videos? Is like learning any other music instrument?)

sounds like me and my guitar... lol i found the best way for me to learn is by someone who plays well or int his case mixes well..... shows me physically how to do it then repeat it and practice a little piece bit by bit before i get it down...so in the end it all depends on how you learn.... if you learn like i do then seek out someone that is good at it and have them show you or teach you kinda like an internship lol

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I did that last night and kind of blew through it. I messed with the effects a bit too much:rolleyes: But yeah I just need to work on my phrasing and transitions.

I have at least 8-10 friends who are DJ's in Spokane so I get a lot of tips, and my best friend has been doing it for 10+ years and is a DJ every Fri and Sat at our favorite Club downtown. So I lucked out in that regard. I would assume there may be classes you can take, and of course online instructions (can't beat one on one personal instruction though.) Check out the Traktor S2 controller. That's what I got and it's super easy to use. Eventually I will use my knowledge of that to try to mix on CDJ's or even turntables. The Traktor is about $400 on Amazon and you can hook it to a PC or MAC and even use some basic speakers, or get some nice monitor speakers and be ready to mix. The expensive software comes included!!:thumbup:
 
Listening to the mix now. Good choice of music. I'm rally diggin it! :thumbup: One thing I noticed soo far is at the 12:00 mark there's a transition where vocals mix and it sounds a bit odd. It would probably sound better if you transitioned at a point without the vocals. Just my opinion, I'm no musician or anything, haha.

Haha, yeah I screwed that one up. My DJ friend is always telling me I need to work on my phrasing and I totally do. Sometimes it really does work mixing vocals as long as they don't overlap eachother...in my opinion at least. Thanks for checking it out though and the feedback!:thumbup:
 
Got a gig!!

All about who you know really, my DJ freind went on vacation so the club he plays at needed a sub and I was chosen over tried and tested DJ's in town! WooHoo!! I am very excited and a little nervous, I have a crap load of Top 40, Dubstep, Electro, Breaks, House... I am set and I even went and got myself a brand new shiny 15" Mac Book Pro. Wish me luck everyone :rolleyes: I may need it.

Haha, thanks, I'm stoked!! I will be playing the downstairs area so it's not a stage, I'll either be playing next to the Vault itself or I can use this little DJ booth they have built into the wall but it's kind of crampt. Maybe I'll just try both. One night in the booth crampt and almost hidden but at least I don't have to bend over the whole time to play. Next night out by the vault where I can see everyone and they can see me but I have to bend over a bit to use my mixer. I'll try to get my girl to take some pics and definitely let you know how it went.:D

Yeah that beat is dope!! It's called Calypso, by Excision & Datsik. Datsik came here about a month ago and it was an awesome show until Steve Aoki came on and douched up the stage :rolleyes: Another song in that mix is called Promises, a Nero and Skrillex colab, also a very sick song!! I have been practicing a lot for the debut so I'll make another mix and share it with you guys.

Breaks are becoming some of my favorite music now, check out this mix I made, it's sick if you ask me. I was out of Phrase a couple times but all in all I like it!!

So I played at The Vault Friday and Saturday and it was a lot of fun. Friday sometimes doesn't get busy enough to open the downstairs and this was no exception. There was supposed to be a party down there but not sure what happened, most of the night it was empty. I still played though and got some practice.

Saturday was the opposite, there was a double birthday party down there with 50 to 75 people. I did pretty good, I was super tired from the night before. I was playing Top 40 and the birthday girl asked if I would play really popular dance songs.... I thought that WAS Top 40.... huh, well anyways they enjoyed it and so did I.

Yesterday I remixed my Breaks mix and I have to say this is MY best so far. Here is a link to listen or download if you like it. Enjoy!!

So I played at The Vault for my first gig a couple weeks ago. It was fun and I did a good job I guess, they paid me at least:rolleyes: Friday was really slow so they didn't really even open the downstairs. Saturday there were two birthday parties worth of people down there so it was packed.

They wanted Top 40 so I was playing a bunch of it. Then the birthday girl came up and asked to hear "really popular dance music" :confused: Isn't that the whole meaning of Top 40!! Finally one of them came up and asked for Skrillex so I dropped a bunch of DubStep and Breaks.

All in all it was a good experience and I had fun and made $80 so I can't complain if I wanted to. Didn't have anyone I knew there to take pics but the club photographer who comes there a lot took a pic of me... :o Kind of embarrased because I look like a tool but here it is. Oh yeah, and a few guys were talking and looking at me so I was like What the F is going on...but they came up and said they Love the Bill F'ing Murray Chive shirt!!

Can't wait to do it again!!:rockon:
