Just got my new Cycle Canada magazine today with a intro write up on the FZ8. Ofcourse they did compare it to the FZ6R. Here is what they said about the FZ6R. "What I am trying to say( if only elliptically)is that the FZ6R has a gutless midrange and the FZ8 and it's faired friend the Fazer 8 do not." Also it is written :"the soft midrange of the FZ6R was like a thorn in the paw that makes the housecat difficult to be around." Any body else feel that way about the FZ6R? I for one do not. Thoughts?

My FZ6R has enough power for me as this is my first bike. I have nothing to compare it to until I upgrade in the near future. Too bad the US market doesn't get the FZ8.

Gutless midrange is a relatice term. Compared to what? My ZRX1200R was an awesome bike in the low / mid range. The bike would easily pull power wheelies. In comparison to that bike the 6R is gutless, but it's engine is also 1/2 the size. For a 600cc bike, I think it does just fine. The FZ6 made more mid range power (at least the upper mid range) but you had to wrap that baby up past 7K to feel it. Once there, hold the hell on. Our bikes are down almost 20 HP from the FZ6. We just make much better power in the low end and low mid-range.

Agree with you. +1 :thumbup: You can't compare two different market bikes....why compare an 800cc with a 600cc?!?

+1 as well. I'm not sure how/why they would compare the FZ6R to the FZ8, aside from the fact that they are both from Yamaha and both have "FZ" in their name.

I read, and could understand the comparisons between the FZ6 and FZ6R. Although similar they had a different intent marketing-wise. I test drove both and found I preferred the seating the position of the FZ6R.

With the FZ6R, it's all about expectation levels. I bought it knowing that it was an entry level 600, cheap to insure and something I could sit on with my 6 foot frame without cursing the seating position. It's got plenty of get up and go, but no one is going to confuse it with an FZ8, FZ6 or R6 anytime soon.

Some of these dipwad writers bash it because it's not got the same jam in the right hand as the bigger 600s... well, dummy, it's not supposed to! ENTRY LEVEL. I suppose that's what bugs me about it.

Yes RY-MAC I agree with you completely. I just annoys me when the bike mags on one hand praise a new bike,then a year later completely tear it apart and pick it apart because it is not the "flavor of the month". I have not seen the original write up of the FZ6R by Cycle Canada. I did look for a link but couldn't find one. Any one have that issue?

Anyone who did their research before buying these bikes knew that they had much less horsepower then the Fz6 or the R6. This is not my first bike by any stretch, and in fact I used to have a FZ1. I bought this bike for what it is, a comfortable bike I can drive to work and save money on gas with enough umph to have some fun rides on the weekends. Can it keep up with an R6, no... but I can drive a lot further then they can without my back and wrists hurting. Does it perform like a FZ1? No... but I get a hell of a lot better gas mileage then they do... This bike has a nice nitch as a good commuter, and a great starter bike you won't outgrow in that big of a hurry like a ninja 250 so many start on. I for one am happy with my choice and would do it all over again. Not to mention they are sweet looking bikes!
