Would you let a friend (experienced rider) test your bike?

Last edited:
Me and my friends have gone back and forth for a while, riding each others bikes. He has an R1 and my ninja 1000. My other friend has a katana 600 and he always wants to ride mine but I just don't trust him enough.

Only a few people alive I would trust on my ride -my two brothers.

Otherwise no one else rides her but me,
....even when it is time to get rid of her I will be trading in at dealer so I dont have to deal with the torment of witnessing others ride her.

I dont even consider riding other peoples rides, it just seems rude to ask (dealership's test rides excluded)
I think of it on a similar level to taking their wife out for the night

A few years ago, I let two acquaintances ride my R6 shortly after I got it. Both were group leaders of a riding group I just joined, SCAR. They sorta put me on the spot, and I really didn't have a good reason to decline- since I knew both were very experienced CBR owners and seemed very responsible riders & leaders of the group.

So, after Marc & Alex finished teaching the class, I let them try out my new R6. This was at a SCAR riding class they were hosting, and it was in a very wide, nicely-paved, closed industrial area. Not much room to really screw up unless you totally did something completely dumb-ass. So, they each took turns & rode it to the other end of the complex for one loop and then came back.

Well, on the way back, Marc decided to pop a wheelie on it. I wasn't upset, and I never felt like he would do something outside his control. But, in hindsight I think it prolly wasn't the smartest thing to do on someone else's bike, regardless. Anyhow. Nothing bad happened and it's water under the bridge.

Turns out, as with any riding group, eventually some bad apples joined SCAR. So I stopped going. I still chat with Marc on Facebook now & then. But, nowadays I generally feel more comfortable riding alone or only with small groups of friends that I know.

Anytime u get a big group of ppl together there are always, -always- bound to be some asshole, ego-maniac, douche bags that join up. It's simply a numbers game. And, you have to weigh whether the fun of riding in a group is worth the risk. :shrugs:

That's a dick move for sure! I don't care how good a rider he is...that's like someone doing a burn out in your car...dick move. He should have some respect for your stuff.

Anyways, I let my buddy ride my bike because I got to ride his Ducati Multistrada....I thought that was a fair deal! :D

Yes, my bike is my baby, but If I knew and trusted the person, I would. I have! Before I had the 6r my buddy let me borrow his Ducati Monster 900. He only let me borrow it after I got my endorsement though, which was completely understandable. After I had my 6r for a while, him and I went for a ride. On the way back home, we had stopped and I offered to let him ride mine (he had wanted to ever since he saw me pull up to his house on it). The way I figure, in this situation, he let me borrow/ride his so I returned the favor.

...
Example:
My friend recently let his other "friend" whom iv'e never met drive his car to run a quick errand. Long story short, dude STOLE his car, days later it was recovered at the impound lot all screwed up and cost my friend money to get it out..

Life lesson: No good deed goes unpunished.
I think the real Life lesson: Choose better friends, OR better learn how to choose friends.

I've only let ONE person ride my bike, and that's because he let me ride his brand new gsxr 1000 next to him, pretty fair trade off I think!

I let my buddy on it all the time. He has owned multiple bikes but doesn't anymore so he gets his fix every once in a while on my bike. If something happens to it, it can be fixed so I'm not worried
