Heading there for a Sat night tenting trip... if anyone is in the area and wants to swing by, or knows the area well enough to give us some places to check out.
First tent trip of the season!
This is what our ride looked like from Gatlinburg to Pigeon Forge on the bike..I'm not sure how familiar you are with tn. Should go down the road a little bit to pigeon forge/gatlinburge
Great places.
Blue ridge Pkwy? I think that's the one your talking about. I just call it.... "the gap".Awesome place to ride... go down 40 towards NC, last exit in TN get OFF!!!
Should put you on Rt 32 and it is awesome sauce between I-40 and Cosby, TN
Nearby I'd hit 441 through the mountains and check out Clingmans Dome.
That's about 1.5hrs from the Tail of the Dragon US129 (just south of Marysville, which is South of Knoxville).
I think the Cherohala Skyway is closed, but that would take you out kinda far.
Rt 28 between Bryson City NC and Franklin, NC is very technical road.
Hell that whole area rocks, just go explore no way is really bad right there.
it is closed, in fact when we ran the dragon we preceded to ride to North Carolina to visit some Casino & there were signs saying that 28 would be closed starting the next day. Glad we got to ride that route.Awesome place to ride... go down 40 towards NC, last exit in TN get OFF!!!

BRP I assume he will take to that area from his house. I meant what is locally called "the Skyway", it has some american indian name in front of it, like cherhola or something. Anyway if you exit Deals gap resort/Tail of the dragon goin south you can get to the skyway. Think it's rte 143.Blue ridge Pkwy? I think that's the one your talking about. I just call it.... That is a very awesome scenic road. Never been on a motorcycle though. I have got to get up there!
That stinks, that road is awesome. Lot's of closed routes this yr, 441 was closed when I was out there last and re-opened 2 days later :wtfgun:it is closed, in fact when we ran the dragon we preceded to ride to North Carolina to visit some Casino & there were signs saying that 28 would be closed starting the next day. Will work on that video soon...
so does 339,25, 212, and 276
Looks like a great place..still undecided... prob haul there set up the tents, then check out the area, come back... chill, then head back next day home to our families for fathers day... just don't know yet... these trips are meant to be unplanned... except for the base camp area, we just ride... meant to be relaxing and get away from day-day work
Nice, barely 802 miles away! I got few things line up with work and my Sister is coming to visit me in August with the kids. So it look like bike ride vacation will have to wait a bit. Thinking about September when the weather is not as warm and still nice to ride. I'm way over due for a real ride, somewhere with freaking curves!
If I only had more funds this week, I would drop down and say hi! let me know before your next trip up that way. Anything in that johnson city-maryville area is a one day ride for me...Newport / I-40 / Smoky Mountains KOA

got reservations already... $20/night for two tent setups... it'll be one other guy who likes to tent it and me... most the other people I ride with would rather trailer their bikes there and stay in a hotel...Looks like a great place..
Newport / I-40 / Smoky Mountains KOA | Camping in Tennessee | KOA Campgrounds i would call them to check availabilty..
32 looks like a dream!! i say do it!! are you lone ranging or got the gang with ya!!
most koa and some other camp sites now offer power outlets at each site... we always opt for it if available to charge phones/mp3 players, etc. No full on roughing it yet...I ride in and Ride out... but perfer to have a bed... I will tent, but haven't tried it on the bike yet...plus that makes charging the go pro difficult!
Just buy a bunch of extra Wasabi batteries!I ride in and Ride out... but perfer to have a bed... I will tent, but haven't tried it on the bike yet...plus that makes charging the go pro difficult!
screw those *****es!! they would burn inside full leathers.. but camping outdoors is out of their sweeet comfort zone!!most the other people I ride with would rather trailer their bikes there and stay in a hotel...
I got two, two more are on the wish list.... but I still only get 1.5 hrs out of them or so...three 32 gig cards, and the laptop to download the data...all needs power!Just buy a bunch of extra Wasabi batteries!
