"The Talk"

Go to your parents' house, take off your helmet, and light up the rear tire in the driveway until they come outside to see what the fuss is. That or what Marthy said.

j/k, I agree with most people here. I grew up in a "bike" family, so no problems of that sort, but my wife's Mother-in-law had to breathe in to a paper bag for a week when I told her my wife gets on the back of my bike. She came around eventually, now that she knows I'm not out on the streets running from the cops and racing everything on 2 wheels. Just be patient and sensitive to their concerns, and, most importantly, show them by example that you are a safe, careful, and conscientious rider.

Buy a lot of life insurance..

Parents will always be parents.

Stress the safety class--always wear gear--etc.

Don't mention" In case something happens to me"

You don't want to hide anything from them.

Mention the small engine size--ease of operation etc.

Be serious and make sure you can leave 5 minutes after the news.:scared:

:banghead:

Thanks Butler. What would I do without you calling me out in front of everyone?.

That's the just of it. ;)

You keep using this word. I do not think it means what you think it means.*

To the OP, I have some sympathy for you. My parents are very religious and don't approve of many things that I choose to do, such as drink, look at pr0n (occasionally ), get tattoos, etc. Some of these things I hid, or tried to hide from them, to some degree even now. Oh, they know I drink, they just don't know to what extent. So I feel your pain.

But when I got a motorcycle, I wasn't too worried about their reaction since my dad used to ride when he was younger. After I told them, my dad went out and got a FJR1300, so you just never know.

*The word you want is "jist."

You are both wrong. It is actually "gist".

Thank you. ;)

Wow, that's a tough one. I grew up in a family that was more or less accepting of 2 wheel goodness. :D The only few that had objections were my grandmother (ER nurse, seen lotsa bike-related injuries) and my mom was just surprised. Honestly, I would just break em' in slow and not talk about it too much, heh.

Well everyone seems to have covered it pretty good already, the simplest way I can think of to put it is to think of it like a band aid, just get it over with. Ride over to their house on it, and let them say whatever they're gonna say, and ask the questions, inform them the best you can and move on. Considering it's something that seems like it weighs on your mind a bit, I say the sooner the better, one less thing to stress about. :)

Like you said your a grown @$$ man, unless your making your payments with allowance from your parents there's nothing they can do, they'll just get used to it cause there's no other choice haha. Was easy for me though, my dad was a biker sooo not so much a BIG deal. But of course any parent that cares will still worry a little, can't help that.

Your wife's Mother-in-law is actually your mother, isn't she? :)
