I wont give any real advise on this. Everyone else has already made extremely good points. Taking time off to think about it, especially after how close of a call this last one was, is a good choice. Let your nerves really settle down and then see how you feel. We will all be here to support whatever decision you make, but if you do give up two wheels, you have to stay on the forum here..

Take your time, rest up and recover whatever needed both physically and emotionally.

I this point, I am trying to get it fixed up, but not sure if I want to keep the bike. Just don't know if it is worth all the risks anymore. I could have very well died out there on the highway Saturday. Brings a lot of things into perspective. Maybe it is time to do something a little safer.

With another little one on the way, it is definitely worth some serious thought. I don't think I could have brought myself to start riding when my kids were born, not just from the accident side, but just because of the time and expense needed for a newborn.

All in all, only you can make that choice, I know riding runs in you and the Mrs blood, but a 10-20 year hiatus to raise kids is not a new concept, we have a few members here who made that same choice.

Either way, you know you still have a great family here in the riding community and you don't have to be on the bike to come hang out at my place.

I missed the insurance topic. It has liability only, and the trooper said no one was at fault. I guess that means that I am eating it. Shouldn't be too bad though. I was actually slowing down because the rain was making it hard to see. I did not have the go pro because I was running late that morning to get the bike to service. Not sure what to do at this point. Cheated death yesterday for sure.

Honestly, I dont know if I would have even wanted to see that.. I can just image it was pretty freaky seeing it all transpire, especially knowing what he knew was behind him or behind and to the side when the camera doesnt show that (usually).

I see your point but if you saw or even felt what he went thru at 70MPH you would all understand why he is reconsidering the bike thing....

My 35-40mph off wasnt ANYWHERE near as bad or freaky as his... but for the first 2-3 days after my off as a new rider, I was wondering if I made a mistake.. I can fully see myself (and my wife) considering the need to possibly give it up if I had an incident like him.. Heck, I can guarantee my wife would destroy or sell the bike on me.. She was already teasing me about wrapping me in bubble wrap when I rode after my off.

Well, the cruiser mishap was due to the exhaust clearance issue, and now everything was going great with the new bike, but a series of high risk factors played against you on this last one: rain, running late, freeway.

Now you will have doubts which is natural, as anyone would, my advice is to take it one day at a time and don't rush into anything one way or another, let time do its thing, you will find the answers.

I'm sure you have learned a lot of lessons from this incident, don't let the accident deter you immediately. Take your time to decide but now you can take what you learned from this incident and apply it to future riding. Regardless of all that, I am very glad to see you're alright!

Yes, I have decided if nothing else, that highways are just too dangerous. I never really thought about it before, but cars are so unpredictable, and the highways are always so busy now that taking them at certain times is asking for trouble. Also, riding in the rain...sucks.....always has and always will. There isn't much that is important enough to ride in the rain. Next time, I will be staying safe at home.

As for what I am going to do....I have plenty of time to think about it, while I get the bike all fixed up, but right now, I am thinking some time off is in order. I am thinking years, in which it may be a good idea to sell the bike instead of having it sit and not get ridden. It would also give me time and money to get back to hobbies that MrsFZRblack and I enjoy. I was never fully confident again after the first accident, and jumping on again after getting the bike fixed is not a bright move. I also think that if I do stick with it, I am going to cut back on the amount of time that I ride, and when that riding takes place.

That is what I am thinking. If I sell the bike, I plan on getting a handful of guns. I want a new carry pistol, and a new shotty that would be good for clays. Stef wants a .22 pistol for the indoor range, and wants to upgrade to a 9mm carry. We also would have some money to do some stuff to the house to help it sell in a few years...New furnace, new roof, etc.
