Seriously considering the exhaust and PC... Can I do this myself?

OK, so I got a quote from my dealership and to buy both the two brothers carbon fiber exhuast full system and power commander it was going to cost like 1731.00 total with install.

Then after scrolling through ebay it looks like I can buy both combined for like 1,250.00. A savings of almost 500 bucks.

Question is, Can I really do this myself? Do I need to weld anything or can I just use my normal, somewhat extensive toolbox. I saw the "how to thread" where the Op said parts came welded together already but the ebay auctions show the pipes in pieces... example:http://www.ebay.com/itm/Two-Brother...es&hash=item19d13bd25c&vxp=mtr#ht_4641wt_1163

Most of the auctions show the "power tip" as optional... Do I really need it?

Is the power commander easy to install? Im kind of intimidated of the thought of lifting my gas tank.

I just need some encouragement. Not that it helps but I did put my frame sliders on and changed my own oil lol. Ive had my bike a little over a year...

At that price Bro I can make you an exhaust and get all the parts you need, then fly me and my wife with hotel room for the weekend to install it on your bike! LOL

Where in Indy are you? I use to live in Bburg for a bit when I was working for race team.
 
Those prices are still high...you can get them combined, new, for around $1000. And yes you can do it yourself.

I live around 86th and meridian...


So no welding? those pieces can be put together with supplied parts?

Will I actually feel the 3-5 extra ponies?

Don't be afraid of lifting the tank. It's super easy. Just remove those two screws at the front by the triple tree and lift it up. Prop it up with a cardboard box or similar item, and voila! Access to the necessary wiring harnesses.
 
If you get the TB I believe they all fit into another... But the one I make are welded together. I use the stock exhaust and fit a collector. There a fair amount of cutting, grinding and welding to do. Click on the link in my signature...

To be honest, the biggest gain is at mid range and much better throttle respond. The 5 ponies on top... you might feel it too. And you trim 10 lbs off the bike too. Make it 17 lbs if you install a fender eliminator. LOL
 
I installed my JB pro and Marthy Exhaust with basic tools by myself. Bout the toughest part was I didn't have a long enough extension for my 3/8in ratchet when bolting the headers back on.

Exhaust
-Decent Ratchet
-@ least a 6in extension, 10in would be best i think
-Set of metric sockets
-torque wrench is optional, but I would invest in one if you plan to do more mods your self

PC is fairly basic because of the plug and play nature of it. Should come with easy instructions. For my JP pro the directions wanted to have me install it up front, but i decided to route it back under the passenger seat. easier access to change maps and its in a safer spot.

Wow, You win the award for being the closest fz6r owner to me lol. I have yet to see someone on the same bike around here.. I might pm you..
 
Im going to order this exhaust & PC tomorrow(monday) and once received I think i'm going to video the entire install of the exhaust and pc. I'll record it in its entirety without editing and post it on you tube. PPl can just skip to the parts they want to watch.

I have yet to see the whole thing on a you tube video so I think It could be beneficial. All I have seen is some small clips and a lot of before and afters.

Hah, I lived at 82nd and Shadeland! Up in Elkhart now... will be moving back down to Fishers in about 1.5 to 2 years. I ride down there a lot though to see inlaws.

Congrats! Interested to see how it sounds in person on the 6r. That is next years project for me. Maybe we can meet up next time I hit Indy this summer.
