I am not new to bikes but I am new to this forum. I am picking up a new 2011 FZ6R next week, weather and schedule permitting. I have a deposit on it and all my riding gear picked out and set aside.
My name is Greg, I grew up in MI, lived in Green Bay, WI for a couple years where I started school. My wife and I then moved to Columbia, MO where I finished my BS in Mechanical Engineering and also started/completed my MBA while I was there as well.
While in MO I had my 1st couple bikes (that I owned, not my family). 1st bike was a Honda Shadow Spirit 750, had some Vance & Hines pipes on it as well as some other chrome. Great bike for local commuting but had to ring its neck on the 70mph freeway.
I then got a crate damaged 2006 R6S that I learned to corner, wheelie and ride in groups with. I rode with a pretty aggressive local group, most of which went to track rentals and some raced. I loved that bike but sold it and bought a 2008 Grizzly 700FI with power steering.
Now I live in Chapel Hill, NC and am in the middle of changing jobs. Looking at commuting 120+ miles a day so a bike makes a lot of sense. I rode bike in all 4 seasons in MO and did OK, but I got some better gear now that will allow me to be more comfortable while doing this here in NC. Also, the cooler months aren't near as cold as MO was (at least not this year).
I look forward to getting back on the bike. I got pretty comfortable on my R6 which is part of the reason I sold it (draggin feet in corners, etc). The FZ6R is perfect for what I am looking. Have an Uncle over in Clemmons NC and he has been pushing me to get a bike again as he likes to ride. We live close to the Smokey Mts so it will be fun to ride the roads. Also not far from the Dragon Tail and would love to hit that before I leave NC.
Nice forum you have here. So far it seems very civil and mature, not something all forums can stay. I am on quite a few automotive forums (Ford guy) and see the lots of immature people. Not seeing that here.
Anywho, nice to be here.
