New Cell Phone

So today I was a complete moron and walked into the pool with my cell phone in my pocket. :hard: It's dead. I'm not too broken up since we're due for a change (getting away from TMobile which has shitty coverage in our house) and moving to Sprint. What I'm trying to decide on is what phone to get. I was dead set on an iPhone but the iPhone 5 from what I'm told keeps getting pushed back months and I can't wait. I have to get a phone tomorrow and don't want to get the iPhone 4s since I don't like the small screen. So I'm trying to decide between the HTC EVO 4G LTE or the Samsung Galaxy S II

They're both so close in specs etc... that I can't decide. Anyone ever use either or both of these phones. All I'm reading online are raving review of either of them so I'm pretty sure I'll be happy. But I've hated the phone I've had for the last 2 years and I really want to be happy with a new phone since I'm dropping a lot of cash for 2 of them (one for the wife too) Last time I went cheep on phones (was unemployed at the time) and have regretted it since. I don't want to ever do that again.
 
My wife has the Galaxy, and we had EVO 4G's before that. We are not happy with a few minor features with the Galaxy, but the battery life is slightly better, and has a lot more memory than the EVO did. I am sure that you will not be dissapointed, they are some nice phones. I honestly like HTC's translation of Android better than Samsung (I have the Samsung Transform Ultra). Either way, good phones and you won't be regretful. If it were me, knowing what I know....I would go the HTC. Good luck!!!

Honestly, the Galaxy really is a great phone, and if I'd never had an EVO I'd probably love it. It's really minor things that bug me.

I have been trying to find a setting to not go to mobile sites automatically. It's a big enough screen that the full sites would be fine. Found the setting right away with the EVO, not sure it exists with this one.

I upload photos from my phone to Facebook, A LOT. I ended up downloading an app so that I could do more that one pic at a time (royal PITA). With the EVO, there was a built in function made it super easy.

I know there is more, but its been a long weekend and I can't remember of the top of my head. I'll addmore if I think of them later. Like I said they are minor gripes, and may not matter to other people.

Oh, I will say, for a cell phone it takes some pretty good pictures.

But if I had it to do over, I'd get another EVO instead of the Galaxy.

ETA: I do think the email program, when managing multiple accounts, works better on the Galaxy. With the EVO I would occasionally have to delete the accounts and re-add them b/c it would get mixed up and put emails from account A into account B and then I couldn't open or delete them. Downloaded a different email program and it took care of it, but haven't needed it w/ the Galaxy.

Minor gripe about the Galaxy's calendar, once its linked w/ facebook to show events (handy) I can't make it not show declined events (annoying). I've gone through the settings and it seems to be an all or nothing deal. Not really sure if its a hardware thing, or a facebook thing, but I don't think I had the problem when I was using Biz Calendar on the EVO.

Ditto. I've got the Galaxy and it's meh. It works, but not as well as I'd like. Stupid little things like notifications don't pop up when they should, and it lags a bit, even with managing the apps and closing tasks all the time.

I've heard good things about the HTC's, so I would research those.
 
I just upgraded to the EVO 4G LTE from the original EVO 4G. EVO 4G LTE is really just an HTC One X but with a less fancy shell. Decided on the EVO because it also has a microSD card slot and dedicated camera button.

Considered the Galaxy S III but I just hate Touchwiz. It's way too clunky for me.
 
I had the Galaxy for about 1 year with T-Mobile and I loved it. It is everything I always wanted in a phone. I had some issues with T-Mobile which are being reviewed by the FTC right now on a Blackberry Torch they never got provisioned properly so I moved on to AT&T. T-Mobile is in big trouble right now.
I have the Galaxy Note now and it is basically the same as a Galaxy II S but with a bigger screen. 5.4" makes the Note my portable aviation GPS for flying, watching movies and just about everything the Galaxy II S was too small to do. People tease me about the screen size but it fits in shirt pockets and the cover replaced the back cover and keeps it super slim. I mount it on the cockpit with my portable Icom radio and I'm ready to go.
 
Never used the evo but I don't like the menu setup on the htc's. I currently have the sII and really like it. Had an iPhone previous to this and the android system is a lot more cutomizable then the iPhone software. The sII also takes awesome video and pictures. Would recommend it.
 
You might consider dropping the contract and going to something like StraightTalk. The phone's aren't as sexy, but it's $45 a month for unlimited talk, text and data and you can get them on Sprint, Verizon, or AT&T towers.

There's everything from Androids down to little cheap-ass flip phones. The only reason to have a contract nowadays is if you want the latest, greatest phone. If you just need good, then I think prepay is the way to go. It honestly depends on what you need to do with your phone.

The phones on prepay are not as hot as those on contract. The camera's not as good, the processor's not as good. But some run Android 2.3 and you can even get them 4G, depending on which prepay provider you choose.

If cost isn't an issue, and you need that great phone, then go contract. Verizon still has the most coverage of any provider. AT&T is second.

Before you choose a phone, I would suggest defining your needs. Latest and greatest phone? Go contract. Generally two years. Coverage and cost, with a pretty good phone? Check out the prepay. I'm on StraightTalk with autopay. Once a month, I get billed for $45 plus tax for unlimited talk, text and data. It doesn't suck.

HTC evo one and the Galaxy S3 are very similar
the S3 is going to be the newest best phone it comes out on june 21 on the sprint network.
The only down fall is that Sprints 4g LTE network isnt going to be live till the end of the year and may not even be in your area, but the 3g should be fine.
I have read where wirefly will have the phone for $180 and it should ship on 6/21 to those who pre-ordered.
 
I have a SGSII and like it a lot. Most of the issues with it people are mentioning are software issues which are easily fixed if you are at all technically proficient. Root your Android phone and you can set it up however you like. What you can't change are hardware specs.

But since you want the new iPhone, you could get a pay by month temporary phone to tide you over.
