If you know anything about me, I'm the guy who made all the how-to videos about 4 years ago and has dipped his bike 4 different colors. Before that I'm the guy who made a 70mph Honda Ruckus scooter, painted it neon green, and put a few thousand miles a year on it. I love bikes, I love working on things, and I love projects.
I unexpectedly got myself into a new project. I wasn't looking for it but it kind of fell into my lap. A 2000 Suzuki Intruder VS800GL for $200. Yeah, not $2,000.... $200!!!!
It has been sitting for 3 years. I have a battery on the way, already drained and cleaned the gas tank, found and removed an actual rat's nest, and have some electrical wires that got chewed on to replace. In addition to flushing all the fluids the tires are dry rotted to hell and back, some of the fuel and air lines need replacing, and I need to do forks and seals - a first for me. The carbs were supposedly drained before it sat, I HATE carbs, so I hope it will run without a clean and rebuild... but we will see.
THE BIKE
MODS, because I can't help myself. My goal is to make it kind of hot rod without modifying to the point it can't pass inspection. Black out the forks and some accessories to make the chrome pop. A solo seat is a must but I will need to repurpose another rear fender or chop this one down. Half the spokes are really rusty, so those will be painted black, the wheel dish is going red, and getting old school white wall tires. Drag bars and hopefully I can snag or get someone to make an exhaust that has both pipes coming out the same side, heat wrap them.
WHAT I WANT IT TO LOOK LIKE FINISHED
All in I should have well under a thousand bucks in the bike. If I wanted to turn it for a profit, it's worth $1,500-2,000 running but might be able to get more with the custom look. Whether I keep it or sell it, win-win situation!!
