Midnight in Alaska/ New bike intro

Made a little video tonight. Please excuse my lack of editing. This video is just the raw footage since I have no editing software. Once I break down and get either a GoPro or Contour camera, I'll get a proper editing setup.

I know its land of the midnight sun, but is that as dark as it gets in summer? How dark is it really, during the day in winter?

As dark as it was in the video is how light it is at noon in the winter... up above the arctic circle. Where I live in Anchorage, at the winter solstice it gets light around 9am and dark around 3pm, so it's not constant darkness by any means and we do get actual sunshine all winter long. Up where I work though, the sun never actually rises for 28 days, but it does get light out, like a combined sunset/sunrise brightening then it goes back to being dark. Up there though the sun never sets at this time of year. The sun just circles around the sky.

Man I want to come up and visit! LoL.. It is so beautiful there. My wife would love a trip to Alaska during the summer for sure.

The camera you are using has great video and sound capability. The clarity is very nice.

Summer is definitely the time to come unless the Northern Lights are your thing. If you and the missus ever do make it up here, give me some notice and we can meet up.

I was just using my phone's video camera, but it is a pretty good little camera. I did have my earphones with built in mic plugged in, which may be an improvement over the phone's mic.

All you have to do to embed is to post the link (In the address bar) to the forum, and it will automatically embed, as long as you have that option selected under the post window but above the manage attachments button. Nice video by the way, I rode a Speed Triple last Saturday...awesome bike, but way too much for me. I am sure that yours is very similar, just a 675. Definitely a blast to ride. Enjoy that thing!!!

Hmmm. It says embeding is enabled in the options section, and I did copy the link and put it in my OP.

I think YouTube recently changed their format for uploading and managing your video options, and I don't see a "post" window or "manage attachments" button.

From what I've heard from people who've ridden (and some who own) both the Street and Speed, is that the Street is way more fun and handles much better than the heavy, cumbersome Speed. I'll take fun over too much power any day, especially when it's several thousand dollars cheaper.

Hey Nastybutler, beautiful bike and neat video. I'll be in Anchorage (Whittier) on August 4 for the day (Saphire Princess). Have never seen Alaska up close qnd personal before, and really looking forward to it ! I've got all the usual tourist propaganda . . but some 'tips' from a 'local' about any 'hidden treasures' would make me look like a genious with my traveling mates ;-)

You have to use the "long link" format - if you click the share button under your video, then the "options" it'll give you a checkbox for long link. The shorter "youtu.be" links won't embed, you need to full "youtube.com" link:

Yes, you're right about British Columbia, I should really do a ride just to photograph the area where I live and post them on here. It's stunningly beautiful everywhere you look. I've lived in Canada all my life, I'm retired now, and have visited every Province coast to coast . . but never traveled to the north country so this cruise will help me check off another item on the old bucket list. People keep telling us that the sight AND sounds of the glaciers is amazing!

sooo jealous! my brother in law lives in anchorage!!! I would love to have that daylight!!! i work graveyard and basically im up at 3-4pm and get about 2 hours of daylight riding before dusk which sucks cause if im stuck out i have to come home and put my night helmet on (my visor isnt interchangable) and I dont favor riding at night, too afraid of hitting pedestrians, its a real problem in vegas. Beautiful triumph too!!!!! I saw it in purple once, awwww /drool!!!!

Ok first off WOW! WOW to the beautiful view, WOW to the fact that it is still that light at 12:30 at night, and WOW to the sound of those cans.

Thank you for that video and I hope you grace us with more videos like that one NastyB. I do hope to go to Alaska one day.
