well said^^^^^It's not rocket science people. The forks of nearly every bike are held in place with two sets of clamps called triple trees. To move, or remove, the forks the clamps have to be loosened. To loosen them all that you need to do is back off the pinch bolts built into the triple trees. If the weight of the bike is still fully on the forks, loosening those bolts will cause the front of the bike to slide down the fork tubes. Carefully doing it and doing it evenly gets you the result everyone is talking about.
If you have the bike suspended off the ground, you can reverse the process if you've gone too far. One way to suspend the front of the bike is with sturdy straps widely placed on the handlebars and attached to a come along anchored to an overhead beam. A less desirable method would be to place a board under the headers and jack it up. It would be preferable to remove the headers if you want to use a jack.
If you still aren't understanding what needs to be done, THEN DON'T DO IT! Take it to a shop and tell them what it is you want.
