is there two different fz6r?

i went to the motorcycle store today and there were two fz6rs, they were 09's, one was black and the other one was yellow/black. They told me at the store that yellow one is around 60 hp and the black one was 100hp. they said the only way you could find out the difference was to run serial numbers. Is this true? i looked online and couldnt find anything to prove this.

No. They have no idea what they're talking about. Maybe they are getting the FZ6 confused with the FZ6R. Related by family, but two different bikes.

Ditto what Roaddawg said. The 2009 FZ6 is about 100hp (the internet says 98) and is naked. The 2009 FZ6R is somewhere between 60 and 70 and is fully faired.

Either your dealer was oversimplifying, or you want a new dealer maybe?

Go back and look at the bikes again, if one is truly a FZ6 and one (which the yellow is for sure) a FZ6R, then no brainer, there is a difference.

If the black one has a red sticker saying FZ6R (along with fairing and many other noticeable differences) tell the dealer to get educated. Have them pull the owners manual for both, then you can point out to them that color has nothing to do with HP (well, the black one may be a little faster :justkidding.

thanks guys and yes it did say fz6r on the fairing. It was actually a saleswoman, she seemed to know a lot def one of the best bullshitters ive met then. Ive been thinking about getting the yellow one because i found a brand new one 09 for 4600. They told me at the dealership they were asking 5999 then once i said that price they said 4900.

Wow, yet another example of a completely unqualified idiot selling bikes and possibly putting people at risk by selling them bikes they shouldn't be on. :rant: I'm getting so tired of hearing stories like this. It just seems like salespeople who actually know what the F@@K they're talking about are very rare. When I went to interview at one dealership a guy was just coming out of an interview for the same job. I overheard him tell one of the parts guys after he came out that he didn't ride and never has. When I went back 2 weeks later to FU with the manager, guess who's working the floor.

The FZ6 and the FZ6R are two completely different bikes. They share little more than a similar riding position. This is a failure on Yamaha's part IMO. Naming them so similar is what causes this confusion in many people. Many people think the FZ6R is just a full fairing version of the FZ6. Some think it's a detuned version. None are true. It's a totally different bike.

This is the Yellow bike you were looking at. This is an FZ6R.

This is what the black FZ6R looks like. It's the same as the yellow one above. Approx 68 hp.

This is a 2009 FZ6. As you can tell by looking at them, they're completely different bikes.
