Hey guys, so I finally got the bike I purchased on eBay delivered to my house this morning...

Let me just get straight to the point... The seller claimed the bike was in "Like New Condition" and has "Never been dropped". He told me this a few times, but did eventually tell me (after my shipper came to pickup the bike and noted it) that the bike had some spots on the faring that were touched up by the previous owner.. He assured me that the bike still hasn't been dropped and I have nothing to worry about....

So, I get the bike today and I'm looking it over... Not only do I see the faring has those spots that were touched up with whatever black concealer. There's like 8" fine scratch marks going down the both sides of the faring... There's like little dings around the plastic pieces on the mirrors, and even the REAR brake pedal is slightly pointed inward towards the bike. I'm not sure if that's normal, but when I try to apply rear break, only half of my toes can cover it. Oh and I forgot to mention, the windshield is scratched to hell.. This bike came from a DEALER.....

I got the bike for $4400 with $450 shipping. I almost feel cheated because it only has 980 miles on it and I was expecting to be able to have a good resale value in the future.

I contacted eBay and filed a VPP reimbursement claim with them.. They did mention on the phone that I might be turned down ONLY because I'm about 10 days outside the filing policy... The claim must be filed within 30 days and I got the bike now and the auction ended August 20th.

I don't have any pictures now, but I will get some later...You can't notice the damage, unless you look for it. Thank God, but I'm wondering what your guys opinion on this is....

Should I still feel like I got a fair price? :/

sounds minimal but you can sue the shit out of them if you can prove it was dropped

as for your price...well your price sounds exceptional BUT if there are hidden things it may not be. The scratches very well could be from rubing up against something but Idk untill I see the pics. The bent lever is what makes me think it may have been in something a little worse then rubbing against something.

could the damage have occurred in shipping. you may want to file a claim there first.

Get a professional mechanic!

Ask him to take a full check and/or write a report for you. Long time ago I did that with one of my ex wife cars. It was vibrating a lot, was a used car. The mechanic told me had suffered a serious front crash.

Long story short, I lost my legal battle because my ex wife signed a release document when she bought it.

If you did not sign anything and you have evidence that they stated was never dropped, maybe you can get your money back. But you need to prove it.

Now, without pictures, we can't asses the damage. It can be small cosmetic issues. My suggestion ... if the bike works flawless , no mechanical issues or noises, move on man! That's a great price. However, if those scratches are really visible or bother you too much, take pictures, return it back.

I know is not time for speeches, but I never buy cars or motor vehicles online, not if I don't ride it or see it in person. So eBay or Craiglist is usually a no no to me if it's not around 40 miles where I live.

I'll take pictures and go from there..

I did mention to the seller I filed a VPP claim with eBay to see if I could get some reimbursement. The guy seems friendly on the phone and through email.. So, I'm not sure what's up. I also don't think the seller on eBay actually owned it, since his wife's name was on the title.

You can't really see the two huge scratches going down the windshield, but I ordered a Puig windshield replacement anyway.

Those markings on the bottom is just dirt.... It appeared the bike had been sitting a lot.

The sell told me OVER AND OVER the bike was never dropped.

It looks and sounds like low speed tip overs, which I do consider to be "dropped". You've clearly been ripped off. The marks indicate that the bike was in motion when it hit the ground, although it was at a slow speed. A bent foot peg is an obvious sign of a tip over or crash.

Good luck with coming to some sort of agreement. I think you're justifiably upset, as the vendor lied to you.

To me, those don't look like marks from falling over while moving. The direction of the scratch marks is vertical...in my opinion, the shipping company, or the place that stored the bike previously, was not careful with the paint. They more than likely drug things past the bike, or "cleaned" it with a dirty rag, or scratched it up with tie downs during transit.
If you "Drop" a bike, without frame sliders, you are going to make distinct markings. If you look at as many dropped used bikes as some of us have, you know what I am talking about.
I do think that you got an excellent price on this bike, but you will have to live with the blemishes I'm afraid. Because I just dont see evidence that it was dropped.

Bar ends? Engine covers? Turn signal ENDS/Lenses, End and Bottom of footpegs, Swingarm, and Rear fairing/passenger grab rail in addition to fairing scratches that are horizontal would make me think it was dropped.

I agree. The direction of the marks isn't vertical tho, thet are randowm and swooping. And pretty sparse. Something scratched the fairings, but it doesn't look like it went down. That's just my opinion tho.

To me it looks like something rubbed against it and scratched it, and net the brake in slightly.

Regardless tho, I'd be a little heated about it. BUT if it is mechanically sound, you still got a decent price for it, and that's really just cosmetic. Get a new brake lever, and you're set.

Thank you Mike. I'm feeling better already.

The seller told me weeks ago that something rubbed against the bike, but you could hardly see it. That's really the only thing he told me besides the bike was "never dropped". I guess he didn't notice the break pedal was bent in a little. The windshield has two fine crutches going up the middle, but it is hard to see if you don't look for them... I saw them easily in the sunlight.

After going over the bike, the condition really isn't bad... You're absolutely right, it is only cosmetic. Haha if I replace it, I'll get to know the bike better mechanically :D.

I'll see what eBay tells me in a few days. Luckily I told them I didn't want to dispute the seller. I only asked for for some reimbursement through eBay since he was honest to me as far as I can tell.

Thanks man!

The seller telling you something has never been dropped MANY times is like Bill Clinton Saying i didnt have sexual relations with that woman when we both know the more you say something the more you know its a lie...PSYC 101:thumbup:

As for the damage its minimal and any small shop painter could fix it for you cheap...for instance a found a guy here in Jax that could pain my whole bike what ever color i want for 150.

I don't think it's been dropped, but it certainly looks like someone didn't care for it very well. I'd still be pissed and try to reverse the transaction, but you shouldn't be buying something like this without seeing it with your own eyes.

You're heavily protected through ebay and paypal, it'll take time but it'll be fixed, eventually.

Ebay just told me they can't do anything about it because I filed after 30 days after the auction ended...

My dad paid with credit card over the phone anyway.. So it's not like paypal could be of any help...

I'm not gonna worry too much.. The price and the mileage is still very good.
