I've done it. Yesterday I gave my 2 weeks notice at the company I've worked for for 13 years. I've been there since I was 18 and less than a month out of high school.
The plan is for me to go back to school to become a radiographer. 2 year program at a private school here in town and a student loan and I should be able to pretty much pick where I want to work for double the money I'm making where I'm at.
I'm so excited but so damn nervous at the same time. This is a huge leap for me. I haven't been in a classroom in 10 years. But I need a change. 13 years (my entire professional career) in one place has just gotten old. And a company who's upper management has some wild idea that we should be recession proof (when a huge amount of our business comes from construction :banghead: ) meanwhile not giving anybody raises for 4 years because of a down economy, and pounding on us for higher profits when I just increased my profit by 18% last year, just made it unbearable.
So now on to the medical industry where most of my family works in one way or another where if you're good at your job, you can make a damn good living and there's a high demand for skilled specialists.
Anyone in here a radiologist or radiographer in any specialty? I'm still in the beginning stages of getting details about which specialty I want to look into. My entrance seminar isn't until October and I have to take some prerequisites at another school before I can start. But I'm thinking about either X-Ray tech or MRI tech. My wife said I should go into Mammography.
Anyways, Looks like my bike is now going to become my commuter as I'm losing the company car I've become accustomed to for the last 4 years as an outside sales rep. So at 45 mpg over my 16mpg Ford truck, I'll be riding that the 35 mile round trip to school most days Unfortunately I won't be doing as much weekend canyon carving as I have for the last year. But once I'm done with school and working full time again I should be able to afford to have a decent car for commuting and my bike. Who knows, maybe an FZ1 by that time.
Wish me luck! This is a big change for me.
