if you want to get sucked into a series "prison break" "breaking bad" and "weeds" are all really good ones. if you start prison break be prepared to forfeit a month of your life though...

It's well worth it. I've had it for 4 years or so and watch it more than tv.

It was a good deal when they had the DVD and online movie together. I cancel after the split since most of the things I wanted to watch wasn't available... like millions others, I cancelled! I tried Hulu plus later on and still didn't like it much, even worst to be honest. So now I watch whatever I can get with my HDTV antenna, rent movie on Itune or go to the movie theater. I'm more of a radio guy anyway... don't really care about TV.

Netflix is expensive now for streaming online and like marthy said they don't have anything good. Chromecast had a deal for 3 months of Netflix free when you bought it. That was legit but it sold out super fast lol

Amazon Prime!
a) everything you buy from amazon ships for free with 3 day service (this can get silly -- they will ship you ANYTHING)
b) amazon prime streaming video is equal/better than netflix
c) $79/yr is cheaper than Netflix

I do not believe chromecast will do XMBC, we looked into it as well, but could be wrong
We have XBMC on our computer hooked up to our TV. Haven't had cable in years....heck we even cancelled all netflix and hulu subscriptions because we dont use that either.

I resub to the DVD service from time to time, just to fly through a bunch of movies that I logged down that I wanted to see but didnt go to in the theater. I do this maybe 1x per year for 1-2 months then cancel the DVD part again. I do subscribe to the streaming service though.
Hulu plus (atleast on Xbox/PS4) does kinda suck. It is nice that you get next day viewing and in HD, but not all the shows they have are available to watch on the game systems. You try to and it says you have to watch it on the comptuer instead. You pay for the service that is crap, you should be able to watch it anywhere they provide their service when its integrated like on a game console.
I do use PlayOn though. With that I actually can watch ALL of HULU on my xbox. Not HD quality but it is a pretty darn good picture yet. Only paid for the playon app on the computer to stream to the xbox. Works pretty good. As I said in another thread, I am going to setup as many shows on Hulu and see if we can cut our satellite costs by lowering the packages outside of racing season and atleast getting ride of one of the DVR boxes (that alone would save $20/month).

Nice thing on Amazon also is that if you have a kindle, you get free book checkouts to read from their lending library. No need to buy most books unless you really want to keep it.
I tried the free trial and liked the video service. Only thing I didnt like was their queue and search setup. I think netflix was more refined and easier to use for that purpose.
I've had Netflix for a while, and honestly don't use it all that much, but I can still justify having it since I'm saving $50-80 a month by not having cable. My stratagy for netflix is just poking around and saving stuff you'd like to see sometime into your instant queue. Then when whatever's on TV sucks I hit up my instant queue and watch away. Seems like if you look for specific movies/shows, you will be dissapointed. To be honest I really only sit down and engage in TV show watching maybe 3hrs a week at most (not counting news etc.). The rest is spent working, eating, sleeping, and wasting time on these forums.

varies by device too... my ps3/vs/dvr with amazon have two different interfaces... I prefer the ps3 for finding shows/movies... but the dvd for browsing my playlists...
been with Amazon for over a year now... dumped netflix when they tried to rape customers... and never looked back, tried hulu for a few months, but again, the lack of "Real" movies and shows was a turn-off at the price... Amazon, we buy from there anyway, wife reads books a gazillion, so I got her the Kindle Fire last year and the prime membership... can't say enough good things about it.
Trying to work it out so it can be used as an add on to chrome on my tablet, if I get there I'll let you know and you guys can do the same!
Pretty neat, but I'm not sure that I love it just yet. We shall see as time goes on and I can get more utility out of it.
