The bike is about 78 hp stock (crank hp), 68 rwhp. You can add 5hp by changing exhaust, another 10-15 hp cam swap, not to mention you are dropping lots of weight off the bike. Just guessing, but I'd say I dropped about 15 or so pounds from my bike (started at 467 wet so I'm at 452 wet) already and added about 5 hp. Dropping weight increases the weight to hp ratio as well. Perdurable has a great weight reduction thread that's gone cold. I believe Marthy's setup has him close to 100hp (crank). Does it make it a super sport? No! But it will make it a lil faster, and give you more usable power. Cam swap mod costs less than an exhaust swap too, but more involved. I think eventually the 6R is gonna get a hp increase in redesign.

I really hope it does get a nice little bump in the redesign. Its a solid perfomer all around, just needs to be "freshened" up. I hope they go for the fz8 style sidemount exhaust so people can just buy a slip on. If yamaha was smart they would've made a full gytr system for this thing lol, they could've made some serious extra money. I agree though, taking some weight off this thing helps, just having the filter, exhaust, and jb pro makes this bike a whole new animal, power is so much stronger through mid range, and even in 6th gear around 55-60 mph its got a nice pull to put a grin on my face. What makes this bike so heavy compared to say an r6? Different materials? Smaller frame? I know the r6 is around 415 pounds.
Mostly materials for the weight difference. Since the R6 is race inspired everything is made lighter weight. I like the mid mounted exhaust, but agree that it should be slip on ready. The breadbox was dreadfull for many reasons including weight and being too quiet. Didn't realize how heavy it was until I chopped the muffler off the headers. Yea the stock exhaust was just a plain pain in the butt. Too quiet, an eyesore, heavy. I know they have to keep within emissions regulations, but they need to aim for something more like the r6, where it has the box hidden, although with it being mid mounted, it keeps the center of gravity of the bike down.
